  1. Hiring Manager Training Background Check Procedures (BCCR)

  2. Agenda • What is a background check? • National vs. Local Background Check • ESIQ • Difference • Significance • Procedures • Uploading local background clearance • BCCR

  3. What is a background check? • A verification that a candidate has no criminal history. • A requirement of Catapult as well as each state’s Department of Education. • This ensures that a person is eligible for employment and some areas require a check to be completed BEFORE A TEACHER IS STUDENT FACING. • It is specific to each territory/state.

  4. More on background checks… • If the background check is older than one year, the new hire or rehire must be re-processed for their employment with Catapult. (Unless the state/region has a different policy.)

  5. National Background Check • Some counties and/or states have a specific requirement. • Those that do NOT will be required to do a national background check. • The national check is run by our vendor, Employee Screen (ESIQ). • New hires MUST complete the National Background Check Authorization iForm in iCIMS before their start date. • A MANDATORY consent form.

  6. National Background Check Continued… • Hiring managers must notify their HR administrator to initiate the background check once national form is completed in iCIMS. • Results can take up to 1-3 days to post in iCIMS. • If there is a hit, HR will then review the results. • A hit is….. • Your department is charged for each national background check that is initiated.

  7. Local Background Checks • Adhere to the state’s Department of Education requirements and are followed by Catapult. • The following states/regions require a local check: • AZ (fingerprint card), CA, most of FL (badges), IL, LA, MA, MD, MI, Early Childhood programs, NY, NJ (except corporate), OK, OH, PA, TX, TN. • It is important that all supervisors understand the requirements for their state/region . • Local background check instructions are found on the iCIMS candidate profile page

  8. Local Background Checks Continued…. • Once an employee receives their results, the hiring manager must upload them into iCIMS. • Local checks may be reimbursed by A/P. • The employee must present the receipt and the reimbursement form. The RD (and school district) must approve the reimbursement first.

  9. BCCR(Background Check Credential Reporting) • Catapult tool used to report background check clearances and licenses/certifications • HR enters these pieces into ADP using the uploaded documents in iCIMS • Report then pulls from ADP to verify each employee is meeting requirements
