  2. Grading: • We use weighted grades in 10th Grade English and the weights are as follows: • Homework 5% • Classwork 5% • Reading: 35% • Writing: 40% • Speaking/Listening: 15%

  3. Curriculum: • We will study the following units this year: • Non-fiction • Non-fiction- speeches, writings, excerpts • Fiction:- Short Stories • Novel: Lord of the Flies • Poetry • Drama- Julius Caesar • Annotated Novel: Life of Pi • Alternate novel: A Separate Peace • State testing

  4. Classroom Expectations: • 1. Be in your seat on time every day. • 2. Bring all materials needed for class every day. • 3. Be respectful of your      teachers and your peers. • 4. Be prepared and have a      positive attitude.

Themes we will be Discussing this Year: • Two questions we will be getting to the heart of this year through our reading and writing are: • Where will the choices you make today, take you tomorrow? • What makes a hero? • While looking for the answers to these questions, we will also discuss the attributes of honor and respect.

  6. Final Thoughts • Please feel free to contact myself, Mrs. Stelzer or Mrs. Graham at any time during the school year. • Grades will be emailed home weekly. Please make sure that we have your correct email address if you would like grades via email. • I want this year to be a positive experience for both you and your child.
