  1. Bell Ringer1-27-11 Triangle A is dilated to create Triangle B. A B • What type of dilation occurred? • Calculate the scale factor. • Calculate the original area. • Calculate the new area. • How is the area affected? 5 cm 10 cm 8 cm 4 cm

  2. Triangle A is dilated to create Triangle B. A B • What type of dilation occurred? • Calculate the scale factor. Reduction 5 cm 10 cm 8 cm 4 cm

  3. Triangle A is dilated to create Triangle B. A B • Calculate the original area. 4. Calculate the new area. 5 cm 10 cm 8 cm 4 cm

  4. Triangle A is dilated to create Triangle B. A B 5. How is the area affected? Say NO to Oreos! 5 cm 10 cm The new area is ¼ the size of the original area. 8 cm 4 cm

  5. Quiz1-27-11 What is the length of segment BD in the diagram?

  6. What is the length of segment BD in the diagram? What is the length of the diagonal? Diagonal or BD Leg = 6 units Leg = 8 units Right Triangle To find the length of the diagonal, I used the Pythagorean Theorem. I counted the number of units in each leg, and I squared them. I added the squares of the legs together. I took the square root of the area to find the length of the segment. The diagonal is 10 units long.

  7. Speed Test 1. Get out a dry erase marker. 2. You have 1 minute to complete as many problems as you can. We will grade in 1 minute. 4. Graph your results. Keep the graph in your notebook. 5. We will do this every day.

  8. Problem of the Week & Word Problem #4-3 1. You have 5 minutes to work on the problem of the week and word problem. 2. The problem of the week must follow the Read, Think, Solve, Justify format. 3. When you are finished, turn them in. 4. They are due Friday.

  9. Reach for the Stars Four friends go to dinner. The total bill is $65.23. Rebecca pays $18.11. Isaac pays 30% of the bill. Jasmine pays 1/3 of the bill. Kendall pays the remainder. Which friend pays the majority of the bill? A. Rebecca B. Isaac C. Jasmine D. Kendall

  10. Class Work: Volume of Prisms & Cylinders You need your notes. Title the notes: Volume of Prisms and Cylinders I will check your work at the end of class.

  11. Volume The amount of “stuff” a container can hold. • Area is measured in Square units = units2 • Volume is measured in Cubic Units = units3

  12. Volume Follow these steps in order to calculate volume of prisms and cylinders: • Identify the type of figure • Identify the shape of the base • Calculate the area of the base • Identify the height • Multiply the area of the base by the height • Label the answer (remember to cube 3)

  13. Volume 5 in • Identify the type of figure • Identify the shape of the base • Calculate the area of the base • Identify the height • Multiply the area of the base by the height • Label (remember to cube 3) 4 in 7 in Rectangular prism Rectangle 7(4) = 28 in2 h = 5 in 140 in3

  14. Volume 6ft • Identify the type of figure • Identify the shape of the base • Calculate the area of the base • Identify the height • Multiply the area of the base by the height • Label (remember to cube 3) 3 ft 2 ft Rectangular prism Rectangle 2(3) = 6 ft2 h = 6 ft 36 ft3

  15. Volume of Rectangular Prisms Volume = Area of Rectangle (Height)

  16. Volume 8yd 3 yd • Identify the type of figure • Identify the shape of the base • Calculate the area of the base • Identify the height • Multiply the area of the base by the height • Label (remember to cube 3) 2 yd Triangular prism Triangle h = 8 yd 24 yd3

  17. Volume 8 ft • Identify the type of figure • Identify the shape of the base • Calculate the area of the base • Identify the height • Multiply the area of the base by the height • Label (remember to cube 3) 5 ft 10 ft Triangular prism Triangle h = 5 ft 200 ft3

  18. Volume of Triangular Prisms Volume = Area of Triangle (Height)

  19. Volume 4 in 7 in • Identify the type of figure • Identify the shape of the base • Calculate the area of the base • Identify the height • Multiply the area of the base by the height • Label (remember to cube 3) Cylinder Circle h = 7 in 351.68 in3

  20. Volume 3 ft 4 ft • Identify the type of figure • Identify the shape of the base • Calculate the area of the base • Identify the height • Multiply the area of the base by the height • Label (remember to cube 3) Cylinder Circle h = 4 ft 113.04 ft3

  21. Volume of Cylinders Volume = Area of Circle (Height)

  22. Class Work Volume of Prisms & Cylinders Do NOT Write on my sheet! Show Every Step!!!
