Consideration: u-City Construction Infrastructure • Technology standards for communication conduit lines and manholes • “TTA (Telecommunications Technology Associations) Standards” • “KS communication conduit line and manhole Standards” • Design, construction work and maintenance for utility-pipe conduit • “Utility-pipe conduit construction and maintenance guide” • New technology standards for IT-Poles are needed • IT-Pole is composed of networking device, sensor device and power supply • Networking device transmits sensor information to u-City integrated management system (ex: wireless LAN access point) • Sensor device includes CCTV, N/W camera, location tracking sensor, and so on • Additional power supply for networking and sensor device is established • When planning a u-City project, we have also to consider location, electric power and construction facilities for wireless station

Concept : u-City Communication Infrastructure • Communication infrastructure enables voice/image/data communication • Communication infrastructure is classified into wired network, wireless network, private network, and transport network • Transport network: highly reliable and available connection between u-City integrated control center and external networks • Wired network: wired communication media such as telephone wire, coaxial cable, UTP cable, optical cable (BcN : 50 ~ 100 Mbps) • Wireless network: wireless communication media such as cdma2000 1x Ev/DO network, WCDMA network, wireless LAN, WiBro • Private network: communication network of apartment houses or office building s Transport network Wired/Wireless Network Private network Apartment house Office building Manhole Semidetached house Single-family house u-City integrated control center Public facilities Wireless network Source: NIA

Consideration : u-City Communication Infrastructure • Technology standards for wired network need to observes BcN standard model • QoS (Quality of Service) and security guarantee • Integration with wireless networks (wireless local loop) • Broadband convergence of wired networks in order to support future converged multimedia services that integrates voice, data, communication and broadcasting • Technology standards for wireless network need to observes BcN standard model • Various kinds of wireless networks support: Multiple radio access • Accommodation of wireless LAN, WiBro, CDMA, and WCDMA • Mobility support among wireless networks • User authentication and security • Broadcasting/Multicasting support for multimedia services at mobile network • Technology standards for private network of apartment house and office building are needed

Consideration: u-City Sensor Networks • It is essential to consider the expected advance in various types of Information acquisition device, transmission protocol, and informationprocessing technology when designing the sensor network system • USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) is an active research area in which there are many problems to be solved like battery, sensor, wireless ad-hoc network, embedded s/w, etc. • Implementing issues for the common sensor access network • In a new city: using optical Network applying PON technology for decreasing maintenance cost (Passive Optical Network: point-to-multipoint, fiber to the premises network architecture in which unpowered optical splitters are used to enable a single optical fiber to serve multiple premises) • In an existing city: using IT-Pole and wireless network technology such as WiFi Mesh or WIBEEM (Wireless Beacon-enabled Energy Efficient Mesh network), or IP-USN (Internet Protocol-Ubiquitous Sensor Network) for minimizing the cost of civil engineering works • Needs solution for the lack of a legal arrangement related with responsible organization for CCTV monitoring and Invasion of individual’s privacy

Consideration: u-City Control Center Technology • The architecture model of a u-City Control Center should support Service Oriented Architecture to best suit the diverse services • The key to implementing the u-City Control Center is the standardization of reference model and common functionality and interface • To interoperate with the public institutional systems such as police station or fire house • Provide Integration terminal to link to related systems • Direct connection using EAI(Enterprise Application Integration)/ESB(Enterprise Service Bus) approach • Indirect connection using Web Service approach • To interoperate with the private system such as apartments or hospitals • Develops a module for collecting contents of outer systems
