  3. OTES vs. RE Requirements • OTES is the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System completed by your administrator each year of employment. • RE is an Ohio requirement consisting of 4 years of residency for all newly licensed teachers in order to advance to a 5 year license. • OTES and RE are Ohio legal mandates. These are nonnegotiable requirements. • OTES and RE documents are not interchangeable. RE documents CANNOT be used for evaluative purposes.

Critical Friend A collegial relationship that encourages reflective practice and provides support when presented with a challenge, or when contradictions arise between what you say and do, or to help maintain focus on implementing changes that will have an effect of student and professional growth “Critical” signifies important, crucial, or Necessary It does NOT imply passing judgment

  8. Process • Present an issue/concern that comes from moments of work without closure, issues that go unresolved through solitary thinking • Critical friend listens and ask clarifying questions to fully understand the focus • The friend presenting their issue communicates agenda or goals for the meeting (ex- I would like a few strategies to improve Student A’s behavior during direct instruction) • The critical friend provides honest feedback in a non-threatening manner, without judgment, helping him/her to approach the situation from a different perspective • Both reflect on meeting, test the ideas, and debrief.
