  5. Who can apply? • New program: Starts January 2008…NOW • Time Frame: *JANUARY 2008 – December 2008 • Available To:*Licensed Vocational Nurses*Licensed Paramedics • Follows Requirements: The TRANSITION TRACK NURSING PROGRAM

Must Have All Pre-requisites • English 1301 Composition I • PSYC 2301 General Psychology • BIOL 2401 Human Anatomy & Physiology I • BIOL 2402 Human Anatomy & Physiology II • BIOL 2421 Microbiology • PSYC 2314 Life Span Growth & Development • COSC 1300 Introduction to Computing • RNSG 1113 Introduction to the Profession of Nursing • ***All of the above courses must have a grade of C or better.

Admission Criteria Must be Met • Laredo Community College admission criteria must be met as outlined in the college catalog. • Be a graduate from a Vocational Nursing Program accredited by a State Nursing Board and be a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas or graduate from an accredited EMS Paramedic Program and be certified or licensed as a Paramedic in the State of Texas. • Complete Assessment Test requirements and/or successfully complete required remedial courses and/or be college ready.

Admission Criteria Must Be Met • Have an LCC cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or greater and have completed program re-requisite courses with a grade of C or better. • Admission for a student who has attend LCC in addition to other academic institutions will be based on the most recent academic institution attended in which the student has earned a minimum of 12 credit hours. The cumulative grade point average must be 2.5 or greater. • Admission for a student who has not previously attended LCC will be based on the most recent academic institution attended in which the student has earned a minimum of 12 credit hours. The cumulative grade point average must be 2.5 or greater and program pre-requisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.

  9. Scholastic Probation • The student on scholastic probation or • who has a cumulative GPA of less then 2.5 will not be considered for admission to the Transition Track

Steps In the Admission Process • The Nursing Admissions Committee will review and rank completed applications using the following criteria: • GPA of the pre-requisite courses listed above. • Pre-Entrance Exam Scores. • If the applicants are ranked equally, they will be further ranked by the highest cumulative GPA.

  11. Pre-Entrance Exam • Applicants will take a Pre-Entrance Exam (cost may vary). • A maximum of 2 attempts is allowed for successful completion of the Pre-Entrance Exam. • After successful completion of the Pre-Entrance Exam the highest ranked applicants will be selected. • Applicants will be notified in writing regarding his/her admission status. • The applicant who is not selected for admission to the program must submit a new application during the next application period. • Admission is based on based on space availability.

  12. Applying for Admission • If not presently enrolled at Laredo Community College, must complete application on-line at www.laredo.edu. • If presently enrolled at Laredo Community College, submit the following forms to the associate Degree Nursing Department Coordinator, Lopez Nursing Building Room # 126. • Associate Degree Nursing Program Application • Reference Form • Criminal National Background check

  13. Applying for Admission • All required forms must be completed and received by Laredo Community College by: • Thursday—November 1, 2007

Step #2 In the Admission Process • Immunizations—documentation must be provided for the following: • TB skin test (annually) or Chest X-ray at providers’ discretion. • One dose of Measles, Mumps Rubella (MMR) Students born on or after January 1, 1957, must show acceptable evidence of vaccination of two does of measles-containing vaccine administered since January 1, 1968. • One dose of Tetanus-Diphtheria Toxoid (Td) every ten years. • Complete the Hepatitis B (HBV) vaccine series prior to direct patient contact. Serologic confirmation or immunity to the hepatitis B virus is acceptable. • Two doses of varicella (chickenpox). Also acceptable: • Student received first dose prior to 13 years of age • Laboratory report indicating varicella immunity or • Parent/physician validated history of varicella disease (chickenpox)

  15. Step #2 In the Admission Process • These vaccines are available at the LCC Health Services Department. Shipment is approximately two weeks after vaccines are ordered and paid for by the student. • For more information call • 721-5189 (LCC Health Services).

  16. Step # 3 In the Admission Process • Submit verification of physical examination by a U.S. physician or nurse practitioner. • Submit evidence of negative drug screen. • Submit evidence of current basic CPR certification for health professionals.

  17. Step # 4 In the Admission Process • Purchase student liability insurance annually (premium rates applicable to current academic year and paid through tuition and fees every Fall). • Purchase nursing uniforms and necessary accessories (rates applicable to current academic year). • Pay additional fees for standardized nursing examinations and NCLEX-RN review workshop (Cost may vary).

  18. Step # 5 In the Admission Process • Maintain cumulative GPA of 2.5 at Laredo Community College in order to remain enrolled • And to graduate from the Associate Degree Nursing Program
