  2. February 17 - 18th WAEA WorkshopSeat/IFE Integration Team: Wiring Practices and Standards for Integration of Electronics on Seats. Problem Statement: Wiring practices for integration of electronics on seats is one of the main issues with seat integration. The consensus of the Table was the ARINC 628 Part 5 is the method for standardizing wire installation practices on seats. The missing part of the integration for wiring requirements in seats is the view from the seat supplier perspective. This view must be addressed by ARINC 628 Part 5. Resolution: The team came up with short term and long term resolutions that will address the electronics integration challenge. Roland Schafer, Boeing Roland.Schafer@PSS.Boeing.com

  3. February 17 - 18th WAEA WorkshopSeat/IFE Integration • Short Term Solutions: • Seat Suppliers need a forum to define "key characteristics" for electronics installation on seats. This forum would allow the seat industry to define the characteristics the seat design must take into account. These characteristics would be included in the ARINC 628 Part 5 if applicable. • Seat suppliers participation in the ARINC 628 Part 2 and Part 5 standards development is required. • ARINC 628 Part 5 standards for seat grounding schemes need to be addressed. • ARINC 628 Part 5 should be referenced as the sole source for general wire installation requirements/practices for seats. It was voiced that one set of requirements for electronics installation on seats would aid the seat suppliers the most. • Electronics Suppliers are encouraged to generate installation guides that cover the "unique" installation requirements for their products only and refer to ARINC 628 Part for general requirements. February 17 - 18th WAEA WorkshopSeat/IFE Integration • Long Term Solutions: • Participation of Seat Suppliers in ARINC 628 part 2 and Part 5 • Identify seat only ARINC 628 Part "5" or a new standard dedicated to seat electrical standards. • Address standardizing cable lengths for in-seat cables and address this in ARINC 628 Part 5.   5. February 17 - 18th WAEA WorkshopSeat/IFE Integration Implementation Plan: Within two months, hold a WAEA Sponsored forum for: 1). Seat Suppliers to define "key characteristics" for electronics installation on seats. This forum would allow the seat industry to define the characteristics the seat design must take into account while integrating electronics in seats. These characteristics would be included in the ARINC 628 Part 5 if applicable. 2). Review ARINC 628 part 5 with Seat Suppliers and generate inputs per the “key characteristics” identified.   6. February 17 - 18th WAEA WorkshopSeat/IFE Integration Implementation Plan (continued): Boeing and Airbus continue teaming to develop the ARINC 628 Part 5 specifications. Electronics suppliers generate seat equipment installation guides that detail the installation requirements that are unique to their equipment.
