  1. Español 1 Bloomington High School North Señora Meier Tel.: (812) 330-7724 ext. 50557 E-mail: smeier@mccsc.edu Website: smeierbhsn.weebly.com SUPPLIES: (Bring every day!) Pencil / Pen Three ring binder Composition Notebook / Binder Paper Workbook (will be handed out in class) ¡BIENVENIDOS! It will be an honor to explore this multicultural language with you this year! Learning Spanish is not just about learning grammar and vocabulary – it is about exploring regions of the world, meeting new people, learning about ourselves and our place in the world, and being exposed to something new and exciting; so get ready! A foreign language takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but we will spend the year working together to make it fun and relevant. GRADES: TESTS/PROJECTS: 45% QUIZZES: 35% CLASSWORK/HOMEWORK: 10% PARTICIPATION: 10% FINAL EXAM: 15% Each semester exam will count for 15% of a student’s semester grade. It will include multiple sections completed during two separate class periods. RETAKES: Students will be allowed to retake quizzes and tests for up to an 80%. Additional work agreed upon by teacher and student must be completed before a student is allowed to retake anything. All retakes must be completed before the end of the current term’s final date. • CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS: • Respect: • Achieve : • Invest : • Neighborly: STUDY!  The key to success in Spanish is daily practice. Even on days when class does not meet, spend at least 15 minutes practicing! Study… In context In a quiet space Out loud HOMEWORK: Homework is due at the beginning of class. Anything turned in after is considered late. A late grade of 50% will be given for completed work turned in up to one week late.

  2. TARDINESS: • Students are expected to be on time to class. Students who enter the room after the bell rings are tardy. BHSN policy on tardies is as follows: • 1st Tardy = Verbal Warning • 2nd Tardy = Parent/Guardian notification • 3rd/4th Tardy = Detention • 5th + Tardy = Discipline Office Referral for every additional tardy. • The student tardy count will start over at the semester break. Students who arrive more than 15 minutes late will be marked absent. CONSEQUENCES: 1. Verbal Warning Student / Teacher Conference Detention / Call Home 4. Discipline Office Referral . ABSENCES/MAKE-UP WORK: Students are responsible for making up work from an absence. They have the same number of days as they were absent to turn in make-up work from an excused absence. If absences are unexcused, the student will receive a zero for all missed work and participation. TEACHER WEBSITE: smeierbhsn.weebly.com I post six week calendars with approximate dates for quizzes, tests, and assignments because I know my students are busy and like to stay on top of things! I post homework assignments, notes, and worksheets for those that are absent and need to make up work or just need to review. If there is something we do in class that you want access to, just ask! ONLINE RESOURCES: There are a ton of online resources available to you to reinforce what we do in class. I have linked many such places on my website. I will be reviewing many of them in class, but I will be happy to help anyone sign up and get started. CHEATING/PLAGIARISM: Copying or cheating will result in a zero for both parties involved. An excuse of he/she took it from me is not accepted. The use of computer translators such as Google Translate is prohibited. Any assignment that is determined to have been translated from English by a computer will automatically receive a zero. GOOGLE VOICE #(812) 955-0501 Periodically I will ask students to call a Google message service for speaking assignments. I have reviewed and understand the classroom policies and procedures from the World Languages Department for Spanish and agree to follow them. ________________________________ _________________________________ (Student) PRINTED (Parent/Guardian) PRINTED ________________________________ _________________________________ (Student) Signature (Parent/Guardian) Signature Home #:___________________________ Cell #:_________________________________ E-mail:___________________________ How do you prefer to be contacted? _____ Email _____Phone
