  3. Leaders • (1) Kao Tsu (Li Yuan) declared himself the emperor. (626 - 618) • Forcefully removed by his son, Li Shimin. • (2)Taizong, (Li Shimin) (626 - 649) • Typically considered one of the greatest emperors in Chinese history. Throughout the rest of Chinese history, Emperor Taizong's reign was regarded as the exemplary model against which all other emperors were measured. • (3) Gaozong (Li Zhi) 650 - 683 • (4) Zhongzong (Li Xian) 684,705 - 710 • (5) Ruizong (Li Dan) 684 - 690,710 – 712 Taizong

Achievements • Most influential empire of China’s civilization. • The study of medicine is one of the highest contributions. • used herbs or organic materials for medicine  • conducted a study on diabetes and discovered that the source of this condition was caused by excess sugar through urine experimentation • Study of complex chemicals to create gunpowder • Inventions of gas cylinders and air conditioning • Waterproof creams, dust-repelling was invented also to use as varnishing agent to weapons, clothes and even porcelains • Wood block printing was also one of Tang Dynasty ultimate contribution as they have introduced the concept of printing images and text using woodblocks and later developed into paper. • Study of Law and Math.

Notable Events • Equal field system (666) • purpose to distribute the land equally and avoid the concentration of land in a single person. • An Lushan revolt (755) • revolted against the empire and conquered the capital and seond capital. One of major revolts that lead to the downfall of the empire. • Huang Chao Rebellion (903) • caused because of the who started to take over the power of the central government. Military commissionaires held posts and took advantage of the profits and taxation. They captured the emperor to try to make a bigger influence but were defeated
