School foundation The first school in Strazhitsa was founded in 1843. It was the so called monastery school and was situated in the yard of the church St Mother of God. Later, in 1865 a mutual school in the village was established providing better education for the children.
After the liberation a new school known as the Central school and later as The high school was established.During 1924/1925 school year the school was located in several buildings rented by private people. As a result of the growing number of the students 2 new schools were built - Otets Paisii situated in the eastern part of the village and St. St. Cyril and Methodius in the western one.
In 1947 as a result of joining the two schools a new one was created- A General Secondary School. The present school building was constructed in 1981 and the students of the other schools were gathered in it. The name of the school since 1992 is Angel Karaliichev.
School today Today The General Secondary School Angel Karaliichev has students from the preparatory class to 12th class. The school is the biggest in the area and the students come from the town and the neighbouring villages. It is not only a place where children go to study but also a centre of the cultural life in the town. One of the most famous cultural events is the week devoted to the writer Angel Karaliichev whose name the school bears.
At present, the number of the students is above 700. Some of these students belong to different ethnic groups- Roma, Turks, others have special educational needs and there is a third group of children coming from the local orphanage. We are open to partnerships with the community, parents and the institutions. We work in a team and respect anyone who can offer productive Ideas, initiatives, innovations and work for the progress and the good image of the school.
Facilities The library has a wide selection of books- reference books, fiction and non-fiction. There is also a special laboratory where the pupils are taught the rules of the road. The school has well- established facilities -labora-tories in physics, chemistry and biology, lassrooms in geography, history, mathema-tics, music, art, Bulgarian language and foreign languages.
The preparatory class is situated in a separated part of the school in a large, sunny classroom. There are also 5 computer rooms connected in a local network where classes in Informatics and Information technologies are held. Free access to Internet is provided for the whole school.
The school has a large and well equipped sports hall where it hosts different competitions at different level as well as many of the school celebrations.
Staff All of the teachers have the required education and they are well prepared for the challenges related with their jobs. Many of them have defended different professional- qualification levels.
School life The school takes part in different projects and hosts a variety of events. One of them was “School- desired place for students”. The main aim of that project was to make the school a place where children would like to be. Other projects our school took part in were related with sports and providing students who have difficulties in learning with additional classes.
Our students take part in different initiatives where they can show themselves as future managers and active citizens. One of these initiatives, entitled One Day manager, is promoted by Junior Achievement- Bulgaria foundation.
In our school there are children with special educational needs. In order to meet their needs we have two teachers with special training that provide all the necessary help. They go into children’s classes giving a hand to the students as well as to the teachers. They also provide additional individual classes with the students.
Our children take part in many literary competitions and have won numerous national and international awards. Music is also a field that our student find success. Some of them have made several appearances on TV.
The children are involved in different activities related with environmental issues. At this year’s celebration of Earth Day they cleaned the back yard of the school, planted trees and flowers and painted a bin.
As a healthy diet is very important we provide the younger students with lectures and organize different activities supporting the building of the right eating habits.
Our school celebrates all traditional and national holidays. Students of different ages took part in the preparations for the holidays.
Some of the traditional holidays children presented in front of their parents and other teachers. The younger celebrated the seasons as well. This helps them to adapt to the school easier and makes them happy.
The school also celebrates the traditional holidays of the countries whose languages are taught. Halloween is one of the most famous and loved one among the children.
Sports are important for our school. We have handball and football teams. The handball team is very successful and it Has brought many awards to the school.
