AP Test-Taking Tips • Days before the test • Review content material and the guidelines for essay writing • 50% of the test is multiple-choice • 50% of the test is 3 essay questions • Make sure you know the nuances of each question • Get a good night’s sleep. Do not stay up late cramming. • Eat breakfast. It is a long test. • Be in the gym by 7:45. Don’t be running in at the last moment. • Relax when you get there. Be confident that you know the material. Start focusing on task at hand.

  3. AP Test-taking Tips • Multiple-Choice Tips • You are assessed on the total number of correct questions. • You have 55 minutes to answer 70 questions. • Don’t get caught up on the questions. If you have narrowed it down to 2 answers, using the guess and go method is better than not answering at all.

How to Crack the Multiple Choice Questions Question: When the Europeans arrived in sub-Saharan Africa in the 1400’s and the 1500’s, the African slave trade was a- just beginning B- well established and about 500 years old C- still under the control of the Muslim traders D- Not economically viable and did not interest the Europeans STEP I- Read the question and put it in your own words. (think when, who, what) then rephrase the question

  5. Step 2: Answer in your own words Once you have rewritten the question, take a second to call up the relevant history that you know. If you don’t know a lot then think of a few points that you do know. EX- it already existed in both africa and europe, so it wasn’t new

  6. Step 3: Process of Elimination Even if you don’t know what is going on with the slave trade, you can use the little that you do know to eliminate answers Remember to read each answer choice with a critical eye, looking for what makes it wrong. Cross

  7. Essay Tips Use the 10 minute prewriting time on the DBQ documents. Answer your best essay question first. Save the worst question for last. Pace yourself. You do NOT have to switch questions after 40 minutes. You should be close to the recommended time.
