  11. What is a benzo, anyway? • Short for Benzodiazepine • Commonly prescribed for anxiety and insomnia • Alprazolam (Xanax) • Clonazepam (Klonopin) • Lorazepam(Ativan)

  12. What’s the Problem With Benzos? • Addictive!!! • Use even at a low dose can cause dependency • Abrupt discontinuation of benzodiazepines can lead to severe and potentially life-threatening withdrawal symptoms

  13. Statistics on Problems with Benzos • From 1992 through 2003 the number of those abusing prescription medications increased by 94%. • From 2001 to 2014, there was a 5-fold increase in the total number of deaths from benzodiazepines.
