  2. Outline • Virtual Reality use case • Smart office use case • Stadium use case Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  3. Virtual Reality use case Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  4. Evolution of VR HMD resolution Resolution per eye 2560x1440 StarVR 1440x1600 Samsung Odyssey 1080x1200 HTC Vive Oculus CV1 960x1080 Oculus DK2 Sony PSVR 640x800 Oculus DK1 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  5. Tunnel vision & screen door-effects • What is ideal field of view and resolution ? Human Visual Acuity : • 10/10 = 1 arc min = 1/60 degree • Pixels can be distinguished at 1/60° degree • 150°x130° -> 9000x7800 pixels per eye • And perhaps more with radial distortion due to lenses ~150° ~210° The ideal VR/AR HMD : • Field of view : 2 x 150° x 130° • Resolution : 2 x 9000 x 7800 pixels • Frequency : at least 120Hz • Photon-To-Motion Latency : < 17ms ~150° Vertical field of view ~130° Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  6. The VR interaction/display loop • Future untethered HMD • Perspectives to handle high-def untethered HMD • Foveal based compression • Very high wireless bandwidth Tracking Rendering 2x9000x7800@120 Head Movement ~470Gbps < ~17ms Zero latency Encoding (ratio 1:4) Zero latency Decoding Timewarp ~120Gbps VR Display HMD side Computer Side Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  7. Required bandwidth per resolution Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  8. Current wireless VR solutions • TPCast • 802.11ad • 1080x1200 @90Hz • Latency: <2ms • KwikVR • 802.11ac • 1080x1200 @90Hz • Latency: <12ms • Immersive VR • 802.11ad & 802.11ac • Up to 4K (lossy) • Latency: 1ms • NGCodec • 802.11ad & 802.11ac • 1080x1200 @60Hz (lossy) • Latency: ?? • Nitero • 802.11ad • 2K @90Hz • Latency: 1/100 ms • QuarkVR • ??? • 1080x1200 @90Hz • Latency: ???   9. Use Case example with Light Communication (LC) OWC-7xTxRx Optic spatial diversity IP/MAC Gbps Switch IP/MAC Gbps VR Server USB TxRx 1Gbps PmP Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  10. Use Case Target/Requirement • Room size: 10x10m • Nb Users: 10 • Wireless linkwith Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) • Video streaming: 220 Gbps per user (8K per eyewith 30 bits per pixels at 120 fps) • Latency: < 3ms for videostream transport • Multi-User • Multi Virtual Reality environnement • interoperability: Station X & Device Y • Tracking (Gyroscope, Accelerometer…) • Position: < 1 mm • Orientation: <1/10° • EnergyFeed (from OWC Access Point to HMD) Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  11. Smart Office use case Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  12. Smart Office Use Case Description • LC does not cause any interference with other RF technologies and the licence exempt spectrum along with the dense cell deployment, means that LC can be used to deliver link aggregation, releasing precious spectrum at the lower bands for other applications. • Radio Frequency (RF) communications in the lower spectrum cannot be deployed in areas that are particular sensitive to electromagnetic interference (EMI). Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  13. Smart Office Use Case Requirements Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  14. Stadium use case Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  15. Stadium Use Case Description • Massive crowds concentrated, temporarily or not, users being stationary or slowly moving, watching HD videos, sharing contents on social networks, accessing / receiving information from servers/internet… • Stadium: a dedicated wireless technology is deployed in a stadium in order: • for fans to view replays available on the club website, with different viewing angles…, to share, with friends, on social networks, live videos/pictures taken in the stadium • for professionals of media to share videos/contents (with high quality level) with their editorial team https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/story-turkeys-first-connected-stadium-fenerbah%C3%A7e-%C3%BClker-yurdag%C3%BCl/ Olivier Bouchet, Orange

  16. Stadium Use Case Requirements • NGMN 5G white paper http://ngmn.org/fileadmin/ngmn/content/images/news/ngmn_news/NGMN_5G_White_Paper_V1_0.pdf Olivier Bouchet, Orange
