  1. Azerbaijan 1 HeydarAliyev Cultural Center in Baku

  2. Located in Baku’s planned cultural plaza district, the five-storey HeydarAliyev Cultural Centre features a conference hall, three auditoriums, a library and a museum.

  3. The HeydarAliyev Center is a building complex in Baku, Azerbaijan designed by Iraqi-British architect ZahaHadid and noted for its distinctive architecture and flowing, curved style that eschews sharp angles. The center is named for HeydarAliyev, the leader of Soviet-era Azerbaijan from 1969 to 1982, and president of Azerbaijan from October 1993 to October 2003

  4. One of the Laurence Jenkell‘s candy flag sculptures

  5. The outdoors area is filled with gazelle sculptures that were painted by different artists from all around the world. It is quite interesting to see how the same form and surface can be transformed into something unique by touch of every artist

  6. The building opened in May 2012 to mark the 89th birthday of HeydarAliyev – the country’s Soviet-era ruler who became its president in 1993

  7. The fluid, organic curves of this 100,000 sq m (120,000 sq yd) creation - the work of leading London-based Iraqi-British architect ZahaHadid - is a visual standout even in this city of towering, landmark new-build projects

  8. HeydarAliyev, who died in 2003, chaired Azerbaijan’s KGB for more than 20 years and was blamed for human rights violations in the later years of his post-Soviet presidency by Amnesty International

  9. On June 21, 2013, the Center held the opening of the exhibition of works by American artist Andy Warhol titled “Life, Death, and Beauty” supervised by Gianni Mercurio, dated for the 85th anniversary of the artist

  10. The centre was designed to become a primary space for Azerbaijan’s cultural programs and events, and take a significant place in the urban landscape of modern Baku
