  2. The PO Delta is one the most important wetland areas in Europe and unique example of biodiversity . It is also one of the most interesting areas in Italy for cultural heritage.

The Delta Regional Park in Regione Emilia Romagna extends from “Po di Goro” to the “ Valli di Comacchio”; it consists in wide green and natural areas, century-old-woods, pine forests and thin strips of land immerged in water. Unesco has nominated the park a World Heritage site in 1999; the lagoons have been declared “ Wetland of International Importance” and they are included in the EU’s directives as “ Special Protected Areas”.

  4. It is an ideal habitat for hundreds of species of: bird, Fish, Animals, Botanical species.

  5. The Po Delta Regional Park is a paradise for nature-lovers, biologists, scientists, birdwatchers, tourists and gourmets. The park in fact is crossed by two “ Wine and Flavour Routes of the Province of Ferrara: The Route of the Great River and the Route of the Delta. They mark some ideal eno-gastronomic and touristic routes in the province of Ferrara, whose cooking traditions is well known and appreciated since the age of Cristoforo da Messisbugo, the great Scalco at the Estensi Court.   6. The Park offers lots of leisure activities to the tourist: • you can take walks; • bike tours; • you can go horse riding; • Fishing. Cruisers along the Po mouth are arranged daily from October to November.

  7. In the Po Park are important cultural sights: The Pomposa Abbey built in the IX century and one of the most important in Northern Italy.It is an active Benedectine monastery. It was very renowned in the past since it was the centre of Middle Age ‘s spiritual life. Its monks were and are experts in arts, botany, remedies. The ancient fishermen’s village, Comacchio, is a very interesting lagoon town to visit: its centre has a network of canals, bridges, and little pastel colored houses, reminding of Venice.

  8. In Comacchio there are also two interesting museums : The Museum of the Roman Ship and The Manifattura Marinati. The Manifattura Marinati The Manifattura Marinati is an ethnographic museum featuring the life of local people in the past. The Museum of the Roman Ship The Roman Ship Museum is dedicated to Comacchio’s Roman ship, an important archaeological find made in 1981 at Valle Ponti a few kilometres from the lagoon city. The ship comes from the Imperial era (end of the 1st century B.C.) and was used for maritime and river trade. Now its cargo is on display in the rooms of the museum.
