  1. Hosea Chapter 14 and Final Thoughts

  2. Hosea 14:1-3 This is the final call to repentance of the chapter. They are even told how to do it, ask forgiveness, acknowledge God’s grace, admit no one else can save them and turn away from the false gods and their own works to the only place where true compassion can be found.

  3. Hosea 14:4-8 Here God gives His promise of restoration. He promises to heal and love them freely. He is no longer angry. When he calls out God will answer and care for him. He will be their sustenance. Israel will grow and prosper through God’s provision.

  4. Hosea 14:9 A simple appeal to listen and learn. As Peterson put it in The Message, “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll learn this inside and out.”

  5. Sin Gomer sinned, had illicit relations with men who weren’t her husband. Israel sinned, entered into illicit relations with Assyria and Egypt; mixed Baal worship with worship of God. Judgment Gomer was publicly rebuked, left to fend for herself, exposed. Israel was broken, back in slavery, such destruction was coming that Hosea prayed that women would miscarry and children would die in infancy so they wouldn’t have to experience what was coming. Love and Restoration Hosea pursued Gomer, bought her and returned her home in forgiveness and love. God pursued Israel and promised restoration for repentance.

  6. Sin => Judgment => Love => Restoration This is the same pattern we see in our lives. We are sinful. From our birth. As God is a just God, sin always brings judgment and consequences. His justice does require consequences/judgment for our sin, but His love tempers that. He loves us. He pursues us. He woos His bride. And has given us, as a wedding gift, the way to restoration. Jesus Christ. Let’s listen to the message of Hosea. Do not be adulterers, be faithful in our relationships with God. Let’s make that choice today. “The ways of the Lord are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.” Hosea 14:9b (NIV)
