  1. Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 14 to 26 August 2010

  2. Basic Facts about YOG:- • 14 to 26 Aug 2010 • 3 500 athletes aged 14 to 18 • min 4 participants and max 70 participants per country • 26 sports in 16 venues • stay for FULL 12 days of competition

  3. Objectives:- • To foster friendship among youths of the world, in particular, between Singapore schools and students of partner schools; • To provide youths with a global outlook, deepen their understanding of international issues and develop in them respect for the diverse cultures, languages, traditions and customs of countries around the world; • To cultivate amongst youths a passion for sports and a healthy lifestyle and at the same time promulgate to them the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect; the Olympic Spirit and the Olympic Movement.

  4. SNTP aims to achieve its objectives through the following 4 components:- • Cultural Exposure: Youths learn the culture, tradition and way of life of people from different countries through activities such as research, joint interactive websites, online discussions, pen-pal programme and school-based exhibitions. • Student Exchange: Youths engage in outgoing learning journeys and host incoming trips by students from their partner schools. Activities such as educational learning journeys to places of cultural and historical interests and home-stays could be part of the student exchange programme.

  5. SNTP aims to achieve its objectives through the following 4 components:- • Service Learning: Youths involve themselves in meaningful collaborations and put their learning into action by participating in community projects to impact and contribute to the lives of others, especially the less fortunate. • Adventure-based Learning: Selected youths participate in an International Youth Camp which promotes self-discovery and builds friendship and camaraderie among participants.

  6. ALL Singapore schools will participate in SNTP. Every school is assigned at least an NOC. Singapore schools will organise school-wide awareness programmes on YOG 2010 in general and on their assigned NOC(s) in particular, covering aspects such as the NOC territory's history, socio-economic profile, traditions, youth & popular culture and sports & games. Schools which have been assigned Asian NOC partners will be involved in the AYG to be held in July 2009. These schools can commence with their school-based awareness programme of the assigned NOC(s) as a build up to AYG.
