  2. Objective: • Have developed a shared understanding of the fundamental principles and framework of FPAR and its difference with any other research.

  3. activity • Group into 3 by random grouping. • Share on your knowledge on feminist participatory action research (FPAR) principles • what makes it different with any other research • Any good practice you can share on feminist participatory action research (FPAR) • Discuss for 30 minutes • Sharing for 45 minutes • Additional input fro 15 minutes

  4. Feminist Participatory Action Research • can not claim to speak for all women, but can provide new knowledge grounded in the realities of women’s experiences and actively enact structural changes in the social world.

Feminist Participatory Action Research • women and gender as the focus of analysis • it begins with the standpoints and experiences of women in consideration of the social class they belong • Importance of contexts: historical and the present social context • Concrete analysis on concrete conditions • Accuracy • authoritative

Feminist Participatory Action Research • From the women to the women • knowledge is not “owned” by the researcher • It actively seeks to remove the power imbalance between research and subject • knowledge is owned by the participants as the experts of their own reality • Transforms mindsets and consciousness- raising by bringing the women’s knowledge and perspective in the process • Gender accountability

Feminist participatory action research • an intention to empower women and change power relations and inequality • Not research for the sake of research • new knowledge is generated when one challenges the inequalities in society between women and men and amongst women • validates a new perspective and definition of events

  8. Feminist Participatory Action Research • a concern with ethics (ex. use of language, use of research results) • Do not harm • Respect for confidentiality • solidarity
