  1. Year 3 Home Learning ProjectBooks on plants around the world needed!!!19thMarch 2014 Learning: Writing non-chronological reports Climatic zones around the world. That plant growth is affected by temperature. • Dear Symi and Zakynthos, • Year 3 needs a new supply of non-fiction books on plants from around the world – can you help by creating your own non-fiction book? • Over the last few weeks you’ve learnt about the climatic zones and where they are around the world. You have also been learning about how to help plants grow healthy. • We challenge you to use your knowledge and your research skills, to create new non-chronological reports on plants around the world? • You will need… • To research ONEplant from each of the following climatic zones; polar, temperate, Mediterranean, tropical and arid. • To use your note taking skills; finding accurate information quickly (contents page, subheadings), scanning for key words (important words that link to what you want to find out), skimming for important facts (taking in the important facts), writing down the key facts only, using abbreviations and symbols (e.g. ‘e.g.’ for ‘for example’, ‘info.’ , &, +, =, %, $,@) and organising notes clearly. • To create an information with a contents page, subheadings, diagrams/ photos and index page. • Completed books will be shared with KS1 and Foundation and will become a part of the Year topic packs. • We look forward to seeing the new information books. Good luck! • Your home learning project is dueback Friday 4th April 2014. If you have any problems or need some help, then please come and see us as soon as possible, don’t leave it until the hand in date. • Miss Anastasiou, Mrs Richards and Mr Pavlou
