  1. Fuel Consumption Investigation

  2. Petrol Stations display prices using digital numbers. These are made up of small line segments. What is the largest number you can make with 10segments? What is the largest number you can make with 16segments?

  3. Learning Objective: To use appropriate units of measure and to investigate travel costs Sell-out Concert in London! Amazingly, you have managed to get tickets but you now have very little money left to get there. There is no public transport from Ipswich or Woodbridge to take you all the way there. Only option – you’ve hired a car! The only cars available are all the same price butyou have to pay for the fuel that you use.

  4. We are going to investigate which car is going to be the cheapest to re-fuel after the trip. What information are we going to need so we can make an informed choice of car to hire? • The Hire company has only provided basic information for 3 different cars: • 1) How much fuel they use in urban areas • How much fuel they use on motorwaysInformation is in Miles per Gallon (mpg)

  5. Distance to Concert Woodbridge to London Built up area (Urban) 15 miles Motorway (A14 & M25) 65 miles Diesel 110p per litre Petrol 104p per litre 40 4.5 To convert fuel consumption from gallons to litres = 8.89 miles per litre (to 2 d.p.) 40 mpg is equivalent to miles/litre 1 Gallon ≈ 4.5 litres
