Our Strategy 2015 -18 • Shelter helps millions of people a year struggling with bad housing or homelessness – and we campaign to prevent it in the first place. • We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own. • Our values are: Bold, Passionate, Focused and Together – Which were formatted in partnership with everyone we work with. • We will strive every day to give people the help they need and campaign relentlessly to achieve our vision of a home for everyone.

How we are structured We employ over 1300 staff and have a network of more than 1200 volunteers who all play a vital role in making sure no one fights bad housing or homelessness on their own. • Operations • Communications, Policy & Campaigns • Shelter Trading Limited • Fundraising • Finance & Resources • Shelter Scotland

Transforming Rehabilitation • Under TR we are mobilised in 5 CPAs working across 19 Resettlement prisons with Purple Futures and Sodexo: • Purple Futures – Cheshire & Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Humberside, Lincolnshire and North Yorkshire • Sodexo – Cumbria & Lancashire, Northumbria • We deliver: • Pre-release resettlement services for adult offenders in custody (Purple Futures and Sodexo) • Community Integration services to help offenders with their accommodation, finance, benefit and debt needs (Sodexo only) • Mentoring services (Sodexo only)

In Custody Service Key elements of In Custody service are: • Completion of BCST Part 2 to assess needs • Crisis Interventionto maintain tenancy, employment and family contact • Resettlement Plan developed with offender • Deliver accommodation, finance & debt, and employment interventions • Refer/signpost to other services • Co-ordinate access to services addressing other pathways • Pre-Release planning at 12 weeks to ensure accommodation and relevant support is available post-release • Peer Advisor service

Peer Advisor service • Embedded into delivery model in each prison • Peers are trained to deliver added value to the service and increase engagement with offenders • Role includes marketing the service, providing advice, guidance and information to other offenders • Group work at induction and pre-release • Support offenders to complete applications • Act as ambassadors for the service

Community Integration Service • Offenders referred to Shelter directly from the Responsible Officer on the basis of an identified housing need or an identified Finance/Benefit/Debt need. • Assessment of client’s needs based on a review of the Resettlement Plan or Priority Action Plan • Referrals to other providers in the community with approval of the Responsible Officer

Mentoring Service • Offenders can be referred from Resettlement Workers in custody and Responsible Officers in the community • Mentoring aims to provide additional support as part of a Through the Gate service • Volunteer mentors and paid workers deliver: • One-to-one support • Assistance with relevant practical tasks such as form-filling, or preparation for interviews or examinations • Guidance on how to develop life skills • Support to access local community facilities and services • Signpost to other forms of support • Personal advocacy in more complex areas (where appropriate)
