  1. Today’s Society Regarding our Elderly • ‘Out of touch’; In the way; Slow, feeble, etc. • The result is a bona fide “Generation Gap” • The Bible, however, reminds us of an honorable and respectful view of our elderly.

  2. Scriptures To Ponder • Leviticus 19:32 - You shall rise up before the gray-headed and honor the aged, and you shall revere your God… • Proverbs 20:29 - The glory of young men is their strength, And the honor of old men is their gray hair.

  3. Scriptures To Ponder • Proverbs 23:22 - Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old. • 1 Timothy 5:1–3 Do not sharply rebuke an older man, but rather appeal to him as a father… the older women as mothers. Honor widows who are widows indeed.

  4. Scriptures To Ponder • Proverbs 6:20–23 - My son, observe the commandment of your father And do not forsake the teaching of your mother; Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck. When you walk about, they will guide you; When you sleep, they will watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you. For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And reproofs for discipline are the way of life.

  5. Scriptures To Ponder • Ephesians 6:1–3 - Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.

  6. Points To Ponder • To our elderly brothers/sisters in Christ: • You have much to give… namely wisdom, instruction, and encouragement. Cp. Tit. 2:1-3ff • “Sitting back” and letting “the younger” do the work will only perpetuate “the generation gap.”

  7. Points To Ponder • The rest of us younger Christians: • Need to realize our older brethren have MUCH to contribute. • We simply need to take advantage of years of experience God has blessed them to impart.

  8. Points To Practice • To our young: • Go up and start conversations and let our older brethren know just how much they are appreciated in God’s work. • Initiate ways to encourage and honor our elderly brethren.

  9. Points To Practice • To our “Middle-Aged”: • Teach our young how to honor, respect, and bless our older brethren. • Provide opportunities and means to foster honor, respect, and blessings to our elderly brethren.
