  3. Understanding Biome Vocabulary What is a Biome? What does abiotic and biotic mean? What is flora and fauna? What is an adaption? What does terrain mean? What is precipitation?

  4. What is a Biome? • Biome–a major regional group of plant or animal communities best adapted to the region’s physical, natural environment, altitude and terrain

  5. What is the difference between biotic and abiotic? • Biotic –relating to living organisms Something living or once living! • Abiotic–physical aspects of an organism’s environment (light, temperature, atmospheric gases, etc.) Something NEVER having life!

  6. What is flora and fauna? • Flora –plants of a particular region Carnivorous Plant • Fauna –animals of a particular region

  7. What is an adaptation? • Adaptation–adjustment to “fit”

  8. What does terrain mean? • Terrain –an area of land; the topography

  9. What is precipitation? • Precipitation –the amount of moisture in the air

  10. BIOMES Objective: I can identify the Earth’s biomes and their characteristics!
