  3. Initial Goal • To develop strategies that better meet the needs of all students. • DIFFERENTIATED EDUCATION

  4. CONCERNS • Meeting the needs of struggling students who are not served through Special Education. • Meeting the needs of advanced students who receive minimal challenge in the regular curriculum.

  5. Plan • Action Research Peers Group. • Investigate methods successful schools are using to meet students’ needs. • Develop a list of options that are feasible for Oakwood Elementary.

  10. Changing Focus • Primary Need: Helping students to develop basic skills. • Secondary Need: Supporting struggling students in the intermediate grades. • Important to focus on basic tools for learning: Reading, Writing, Math

  12. Proposed Outcomes • Increase use of Coaching Groups • Implement Co-Teaching Strategies • Increase parent feedback/involvement. • Develop volunteer program (Reading First Grant) • Strengthen Phonemic-Based Interventions • Create a resource list of computer software

  14. Proposed Outcomes(continued) • Pursue fact-finding for All Day Kindergarten • Use of research based interventions for struggling students (Schools Attuned) • Consider summer school options • Mobile summer school • Extended summer school

  15. Prioritized Outcomes • Implement all-day Kindergarten • Improve development of basic academic skills in Kindergarten/1st grade • Increase parent involvement in the school.

  16. Implementation • Group members plan to continue into an implementation phase. • Continue to work through the PEERS program. • Select and implement specific outcomes identified in initial phase.
