1. Installing a wood stove - this is how it works While there used to be only cast stoves, today you have a large selection when looking for a wood heater for your own four walls. So you can choose between different designs, materials or performance classes. Above all, it is important that the heater also fits into your own apartment or house. In addition to the shape, which should be suitable for the planned installation site, it also depends on the performance. This must not be too high in order to rule out overheating. As a rule, however, manufacturers indicate the room size for which their products are suitable. Install the wood stove step by step Step 1: Check installation conditions, protect floors and walls A fireplace usually burns logs or pellets, whereby its shell surfaces can reach high temperatures. To avoid problems, there are special minimum clearances to walls and ceilings when installing a small wood stove. For example, combustible floor coverings must be protected with a suitable measure. Here you can install glass or metal plates, among other things. These must be at least 50 centimeters longer and each 30 centimeters wider than the furnace itself. In addition, there is a minimum distance of 20 centimeters between the stove and the wall. All combustible materials must also be at least 80 centimeters from the door. Since the exhaust system can also develop high temperatures, a minimum distance of 20 centimeters from non-combustible ceilings applies. If the ceilings are made of combustible materials, the value increases to 45 centimeters. Just like flammable floors, flammable materials on walls must also be protected by suitable measures. Above all, you should make sure that the heating devices are standing straight and firmly. A steel connector then safely guides the exhaust gases from the exhaust outlet to the chimney. To do this, it is connected via a special wall lining. So that the stove pipe does not interfere with the flue gas flow, it must not protrude into the free cross section of the chimney. In addition, a minimum distance to combustible materials must be maintained when laying the stove pipe. This is 40 centimeters here. However, it can also be reduced to ten centimeters with a suitable mineral wool coating. Step 3: Ensure the supply of combustion air The fire consumes oxygen, which can usually come from the installation room. If buildings are old and leaky and the rooms have a volume of at least four cubic meters per kilowatt of heating output, this should work without any problems. However, especially in tight buildings, you have to ensure the combustion air via your own fresh air connection. In this way, enough oxygen always flows in and health-endangering conditions can be excluded.

Step 4: Get Approval Even if the installation of the wood heating system does not require approval according to the state building regulations, safe operation must still be guaranteed. The acceptance takes place after the wood burning stove has been installed.
