Course Description: The purpose of this course is to teach students how to acquire knowledge of physical fitness concepts and understand the significance of lifestyle choices on health and fitness and to teach the student how to develop an optimal level of fitness. This course meets the state requirements and is required for graduation.

  3. Textbook and Materials: Textbook: Foundations of Personal Fitness Materials: 1 ½” Three Ring Binder Blue/Black pens only #2 pencils Exercise clothing Combination lock *Students are required to bring their textbook, notebook, and writing utensils to class. *Students should have exercise clothing on workout days.

  4. Evaluation: • Evaluation: • PS1: Competency in Motor Skill and Movement Patterns 35% PS3: Participates regularly in Physical Activity • PS2:Understanding Movement Concepts, Principles, 25% Strategies, and Tactics of Physical Activities Chapters: 7,8,9,10 • PS5: Personal/Social Behaviors in Physical Activity Setting • Chapters: 2,3 • PS4: Health Enhancing Behaviors 25% • Chapters: 4,5,6,11 • PS6: Values and Respects Physical Activity • Chapters: 1,12 • Final Exam 15% NOTE: ACADEMIC DISHONESTY WILL RESULT IN A GRADE OF ZERO FOR THE ASSIGNMENT, A MARK OF UNSATISFACTORY IN CONDUCT, AND PARENT CONTACT.

CLASSROOM RULES • Be in the classroom when the tardy bell rings and go immediately to your seat • Harrison High School Tardy Policy – Refer to Student Handbook located on Harrison Website • You must come prepared to class (book, pencil, pen, notebook, etc.) • MAKE-UP WORK: It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to check blog and complete an alternative assignment/classwork. Work not made up within 1 week returning to school will result in a ZERO.

Workout Day Policies *Dress out 3 days a week • NO food, drink (except water)or gum in PE facilities • Students will be marked tardy if they are not in their roll call spots, sitting down when the bell rings. • Students will have 10 minutes to dress out and be back in their roll call spots for the start of class. Students failing to do so will be marked tardy.

  7. Workout Day cont’ • Students will be assigned a locker. Big lockers may only be used during your class period. You must bring your own COMBINATION lock. • Students ARE NOT permitted to go to the vending machines at any time during class. • Students will not be allowed back in the locker room once it has been locked. • After dressing back in, students must be in the locker room or in one of the designated hallways until the bell rings.

  8. Make-Up Policies (Gym Days) Students complete alternative assignments by printing/copying an article from the following topics: muscular strength/endurance, flexibility, body composition, cardiorespiratory strength/endurance nutrition, physical fitness. The student is required to HAND WRITE a ½ page summary based on the article of their choosing. In order to receive full credit, the student must turn in the assignment in the following order: 1) ½ page hand written summary including the students name, the exact date the student missed the activity, 2) Staple the ½ page summary to the front of the article he/she printed/copied.

  9. Make-up Policies (Class Days) • It is your responsibility to check the synergy grade book and complete the assignment for the day you miss. • Work not made up within 1 week returning to school will result in a ZERO.

  10. Make up Policies continued… • Each student receives 30 points/week for dressing out and participating. • All absences or non-dresses will result in a deduction of 10 points. • All non-dresses and/or absences must be made up to earn back points. • Students who are injured for an extended period of time, must make up the activity by completing an alternative assignment • Depending on the type of injury, the teacher will be to adapt workouts to meet the workout day requirements.

  11. Dress Code: • T-shirt and “exercise” shorts (no buttons, zippers or belts) • NO tank tops, sleeveless shirts or cut-offs • Sweats when needed • Socks • Tennis shoes only • *GIVE YOUR BEST EFFORT EVERYDAY!!!*
