  2. Steps for Preparation • TPM is a long process that requires a thorough preparation phase. • This phase consists of 5 Steps: • 1. Top Managements Announcement of TPM • 2. Introductory Education • 3. Create a TPM Promotion Organization • 4. Establish Basic TPM Policy and Goals • 5. Draft a TPM Master Plan www.uttana.com

  3. Step 1 • Top Managements Announcement of TPM • Make sure that the entire organization is supportive of the program. • When implementation is first announced, many people, at all levels of the company, may feel uneasy. www.uttana.com

  4. Step 2 • Introductory Education • Through seminars and in-house training, employees will be introduced to the basic concepts of TPM. • As these concepts become more familiar people will become more comfortable with them. • People should come to see it not as a strange new concept, but as a valuable tool.

  5. Step 3 • Create a TPM Promotion Organization • Create small overlapping groups who are responsible for promoting TPM at different levels of the organization. • Each group is assigned a leader who is also a member of a small group at the next level up. • A TPM promotion office with a permanent, full time staff should also be created.

  6. Step 4 • Establish Basic TPM Policy and Goals • TPM needs to be established as an integral part of the organization’s overall business plan. • In addition to basic TPM policy, concrete and measurable goals need to be set. • These goals need to be adequately challenging but still attainable.

  7. Step 5 • Draft a TPM Master Plan • The TPM Master Plan is a detailed plan of all the activities that will take place during a three to four year period. • It also lays out budgets and schedules for these activities. • While creating the master plan, it is useful to keep in mind the Six Major Activities of TPM.

  8. Kickoff • Once the Master Plan has been drafted, you are ready to start implementing TPM. • This usually begins with a Kickoffin the form of a large scale meeting or event. • This gathering is used to reaffirm company-wide commitment to TPM, boost morale, and celebrate all that has been accomplished in the preparation phase.
