  3. CHECKLIST • Look in folder and find the ***Salmon Senior Checklist form*** • Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Willis will be in your English classes to complete your Senior Check. This is very important! • Do not miss any exams in May. We graduate on Saturday, May 25, 2018 at 9 A.M. @ APSU’s Dunn Center. • Ensure all school debts are paid. No records will be sent to colleges and students will not be allowed to participate in graduation ceremonies if fees or fines are due. Please start making payments on these NOW. • Attend College and Career Fair at APSU on Monday, September 17th at 5:00 pm. This is at the Foy Fitness Center. ***Orange Sheet***

Sign up with your English IV teacher. • MONDAY,SEPTEMBER 24THAFTER SCHOOL: SENIOR PICTURE MAKE-UP DAY. Sign up with Mrs. Slight, Room 233. There are no more appointments available with Prestige Portraits. • SEPTEMBER 17th – 21st: COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK—Please listen to morning announcements and/or Mr. Irvine’s text messages for daily activities. We will come to your English IV classroom that week. • OCTOBER 1ST: THE FAFSA WINDOW OPENS • Tuesday, OCTOBER 2nd: ACT for Seniors here @ NWHS • SENIOR PICTURES: OCT. 15th is Yearbook Photo Selection Deadline if you took your photos with Prestige Portraits • OCTOBER 23rd @ 10:45 TN PROMISE MEETING in New Theater • DECEMBER: ASVAB test • April 8th, 2019: Required TN PROMISE MEETING @ 5:30 in New Theater. #KEEPYOURPROMISE • SATURDAY, MAY 4: SENIOR TRIP. Students must participate in senior service day in order to attend. • SATURDAY, MAY 18: PROM HERE @ NWHS

SENIOR EXPENSES(SENIOR EXPENSES ON THE BACK OF ORANGE SENIOR CHECKLIST SHEET) • Graduation: Senior Pictures, Announcements, Cap & Gown, Diploma Cover, Sashes, Yearbook, Senior Page in Yearbook • Senior Memorabilia • Prom: Dress/Tux, Tickets, approx. $35, Dinner & Pictures • College Preparation: ACT/SAT, Transcripts (1st is free, $1.00 for each one after if they have to be mailed). Use Naviance to request transcripts. We will teach you how to do this soon! Until then, please come to Counseling Office. • College Application Fees • Senior Trip • Class fees • Parking Decal

  7. DIPLOMA TYPES & RANKING (SALMON/PINK SHEET)

  8. Regular – Will be awarded to students who earn the specified 22 units of credit and have satisfactory records of attendance and conduct. This includes students with an individual education plan who have earned their specified 22 units of credit. DIPLOMA TYPES - REGULAR

  9. Honors - All requirements for a Regular Diploma must be fulfilled plus: • 85% cumulative percent average • no semester grade lower than a 75 • score at or above ALL of the subject area readiness benchmarks on the ACT or equivalent score on the SAT DIPLOMA TYPES - HONORS

  10. Highest Honors – All requirements for an Honors Diploma must be fulfilled plus a 90% cumulative percent average with no semester grade lower than a 75and complete the courses below: • 4 English to include a minimum of honors levels in 10th, 11th, and 12th • One of the math credits must be earned in a course above the Algebra II/Geometry level (While Bridge Math does include some standards above the level of Algebra II, it does not meet the requirement for a Highest Honors diploma) • 3 high school science courses to include Biology I and two of the following: Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy Physiology, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics • 2 years of the same foreign language • 2 Advanced Placement classes* (one must be from core - English, math, science, social studies) *A technical licensing course that meets honors criteria may substitute for a non-core AP course DIPLOMA TYPES – HIGHEST HONORS

DIPLOMA TYPES &RANKING DEADLINES For the purposes of senior ranking and diploma types for Honors or Highest Honors qualified students, ACT benchmark scores must be received by the school prior to the end of Semester 1 for the ranking process and prior to the final day of regularly scheduled classes for the final diploma type. • Students should plan accordingly to take the ACT well in advance so scores are received by the school in a timely manner.

  12. ACT READINESS BENCHMARK SCORES

Graduating with Distinction • Students earning diplomas will be recognized on the graduation program as graduating with distinction by attaining an 85%cumulative average and completing at least one of the following: • • Earn a nationally recognized industry certification (such as Automotive or Veterinary Science or Google Suite, etc.) • • Participate in at least one of the Governor’s Schools • • Participate in one of the state’s All State musical organizations • • Be selected as a National Merit Finalist or Semi-Finalist • • Attain a score of 31 or higher composite score on the ACT • • Attain a score of 3 or higher on at least two Advanced Placement exams (Students who have taken a minimum of 2 AP courses but who have not received final scores yet will be indicated as “pending.” • • Earn 12 or more semester hours of transcripted postsecondary credit GRADUATING WITH DISTINCTION

SUPPORT SERVICES OFFERED • College and Career Planning • Available to meet and create a personal plan for college and careers using interest inventories, personality assessments, and informational interviews • College Application Week • College Visits during Lunch and Hammertime • FAFSA Workshops and FAFSA Frenzy • TN Promise and Hope Scholarship • Provides two years of tuition-free attendance at a community or technical college in Tennessee • It provides students a last-dollar scholarship, it will cover the cost of tuition and mandatory fees not covered by other scholarships or grants

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION • Institutional Scholarships: this is the GREATEST source of money for students • Scholarship Steps listed on Northwestadvisetn.weebly.com • ON OR AFTER OCTOBER 1ST, visit www.fafsa.gov to complete and submit your 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid • Orange Sheet in Folder. The FAFSA requires 2017 Income Tax information • A FAFSA FRENZY/FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP for parents and students is scheduled for October 24thduring the school dayStudents and parents are encouraged to attend • Please look at TSAC Brochure!

  18. SCHOLARSHIPS TIPS • Ifrecommendations are required, select people you know well to complete them. Use Naviance to request teacher recommendations, if needed. Give a two week notice for recommendations to be completed. • Remember, last minute requests for recommendations result in last minute evaluations. • Be careful to avoid scholarship scams. Remember, you should never pay to apply for or search for scholarships. • TN PROMISE: Please apply. It can be your Plan A or B. Deadline Nov. 1

  19. REQUESTING TRANSCRIPTS: We will be using Naviance to request transcripts this year. In the “Colleges I’m Applying To” section, add your school and click on “Request Transcript.” This process will be shown in detail during College App week activities.

Senior Activities Senior Service Day Senior Trip Date: TBD • Spring Semester • Will be communicated in English Why? • to attend the senior trip must complete 3 hrs of service • hours count towards TN Promise • Date: May 4, 2019 • Where: Gatlinburg, TN • Cost: $50.00 • Includes: Charter bus transportation, tshirt, entry to all exhibits, & lunch Why? • to gain travel experience • experience cultural awareness • attend a FUN trip with their senior friends.

  21. Senior Activities Prom Senior Breakfast Date: May 18, 2019 Time: 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm Where: Northwest High School Theme: TBD Cost: $50 a couple, $30 single Date: May 22, 2018 Time: 7:30 AM Where: Northwest High School Cost: FREE Why: Lots of giveaways and door prizes to senior students.

Practice: May 22, 2019 @ 9:00 AM @ Northwest High School Date: May 25, 2019 Seniors Arrive at 8:00 AM Option 1: • black pants • white button down with a collar • tie • dark color with no pattern • black dress shoes Option 2: • dress that is no longer then the gown • black closed toed shoes • can be flat or heel, but remember the stage, stairs, and waking. Go for comfort then change into style : )

FSA ID WORKSHOP • Please stay for about 15 minutes if you: have a laptop OR cellphone with you AND your child has their blue/purple folder from Mr. irvine with him/her. • Please go to fsaid.ed.gov • Follow all instructions. Your student can help direct you as they’ve created their own FSA ID this past week. • Please KEEP this document/information at home in a safe place. You will need this FSA ID information for the entire time your student is in college (at least 4 years).
