  8. GENERATION GAP How many generations in the Sai Organisation? • Veterans 1926 – 1945 64 - 83yrs • Boomers 1946 – 1964 45 - 63yrs • Gen x 1965 – 1981 28 - 44yrs • Gen Y 1982 – 2000 9 – 27yrs • Gen Z 2001+ 0 – 8yrs

  9. GENERATION GAP • Total membership is 4104. • 66% of the membership is 36 and above ie., born before 1973 so most of them would be Baby Boomers & Builders

  19. GENERATION GAP Characteristics of the Generations - Veterans • Values privacy • Challenging to share inner thoughts • Believe in hard work, paying their dues before achievement is recognized • Their word is their bond • Value honesty

  20. GENERATION GAP Characteristics of the Generations - Veterans • Formal communication • Clearly defined roles and functions • Not wasteful (having seen WWII and Great Depression) • Saving and making do • Optimistic, willing to sacrifice • Patience is a virtue

Show-me generation • Work well in teams • Fight for the cause they believe in • Talk about ‘inclusive leadership’, but often do not have the required skills or believe in it • Health and personal growth are important • See their role as one of questioning, justifying and creating change

  23. GENERATION GAP Generation X (born 1965 – 1980) • Economically aware • Can be discouraged about society • Adept, clever and resourceful • Comfortable with change

GENERATION GAP Generation X (born 1965 – 1980) • Clear about meaning of balance in life • Work to live, not live to work • Introduced diversity, thinking globally and “fun” into work place • Wants plenty of information • Value loyalty in workplace, but loyalty can also mean giving two weeks notice • Manage own time, solve own problems

GENERATION GAP Generation Y (born 1982 – 2000) • Has a firm desire to know the reason behind what is happening and what they do – hence the Y or WHY generation • Similar values to Veterans – optimistic, confident, sociable, strong morals and sense of civic duty • Most success driven – ambitious • Want to lead than follow • Extremely confident in their intellectual ability • More than half consider themselves as intellectuals

GENERATION GAP Generation Y (born 1982 – 2000) • Extremely tech savvy • Biggest risk takers • Believe risk is important for innovation • Tolerant, accepting of differences in terms of race, gender and ethnicity • Concerned about environment • Multi taskers and fast thinkers • Creative and independent thinkers • Financially smart
