  16. Referral Process • Referrals received from School District, BC Center for Ability (CFA), Doctors, and parents. • Parent consent needed for referral. • Referral forms can be found on the LSS blog under “forms”: https://blogs.sd41.bc.ca/lss/forms/

Criteria for Acceptance to CSRT Caseload The criteria for acceptance to the Children’s Services Resource Team (CSRT) caseload is a child/youth who requires ongoing consultation from our team in the area of occupational therapy or physiotherapy, and has school support personnel available. Additionally, the child must fit one or more of the following criteria: • A physical disability requiring assistance to carry out activities of daily living (eating, toileting, mobility). OR • A diagnosis of a moderate to severe developmental disability and physical safety concerns requiring assistance to carry out activities of daily living (eating, toileting, mobility). OR • Complex medical needs requiring child specific recommendations and training for school safety and accessibility in the school setting.

  18. CSRT One Time Consultation Service • We have a part time therapist assigned to complete a one-time assessment on students with fine/gross motor difficulties. These motor concerns are affecting their learning. • The consultation consists of a combination of classroom observation, formal assessment and  discussion with parents and teachers. A written report with recommendations is provided. • If there are concerns with the motor issues/test results, parents can then share the report with a doctor to assist with a possible medical diagnosis. • We usually see between 30-35 students a year for a comprehensive one time consultation.

CSRT Team Role • Provide consultation services to schools • Train school staff to safely care for students at school • Support children’s needs in their home • Support integration and inclusion • Recommendations for equipment and accessibility • Attend school-based meetings and participate in IEP goal development

  20. Examples of Training (CSRT) • Equipment: Wheelchairs, transfers, standing frames, walkers, lift systems, use of slings, splints & orthotics etc. • Feeding: Assistance, supervision & safety • Personal Care: Toileting & dressing • Recommendations for fine and gross motor Development

Your NSS team • Bonnie and Cheryl cover both Burnaby and New Westminster School Districts-Public School Districts (including Private & Independent Schools). • 1.87 fte nurses (1 full time, 1 part time) • Message--- time is precious and we all try to respect each others commitments. • Please be prepared

General Description-Nursing Support Services (NSS) ROLE: • To support students in schools by teaching school staff (EAs) to do special health care tasks by following an individual careplan. • Tasks are trained by a RN (Nursing Support Services Coordinator-NSSC) under their licensing body of the BC College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP). Many factors are considered when a careplan can be put in place safely. NSS is a “Provincial Program”. Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) sets the program standards and guidelines in which all NSSCs follow. NSSC’s are employed by Fraser Health.
