  4. Intransit Visibility • The ability to track the identity, status, and location of cargo, pax, personal property from origin to consignee or destination across the range of military operations.

  5. Intransit Visibility • Importance of ITV Data • Accurate data • Efficiently managing defense transportation • Provides commanders the capability to determine when a force has reached final destination • Movements NOT complete until ITV achieved

  6. Distribution Management Systems • Acceptance/Rejection of Cargo • Authority to ship • Funding data • Tracking number • Clear destination address • Identity • National Stock Number • Quantity • Condition

  7. Distribution Management Systems • Segregating Cargo • Physically separate and store cargo according to priority, type, or special handling requirement • Separate hazardous cargo into separate area, store according to class • Provide appropriate security for classified cargo

Distribution Management Systems • Type and Selection of Containers • Proper container must be used for the item being shipped • Consider bulk, weight, and physical characteristics of the item • Proper packing is important as the item may be stored in various locations and subject to different conditions

Distribution Management Systems • Objectives of consolidation: • Save money • In-transit time reduction • Reduction in loss and damage • Efficient utilization of facilities and equipment • Consolidation criteria: • Do NOT consolidate serviceable and unserviceable • Must have same funding data • Must be compatible • Addressed to the same consignee • Must maintain ITV for all items
