  2. What we do. Our goal is to create lasting change by addressing the underlying causes of community issues. We provide a safety net of basic needs services. But we also look at the bigger picture to tackle the issue of strengthening families by focusing on school success and workforce development. United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org

  4. How we do it? We work with local city and county government, social service agencies, community partners, the school district, local business, ECU, PCC, Vidant, the Chamber of Commerce, faith leaders and many other stakeholders. United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org

  5. How do we do it? • We support local organizations that help us meet goals identified by community volunteers • We bring organizations, people and resources together to focus on critical issues.   12. School Success For every 50 children who don’t learn to read in kindergarten, 44 will still be struggling in 3rd grade AND are unlikely to graduate. Research shows grades and absenteeism rates by 3rd grade can predict dropouts. United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org

School Success 800 100% at-risk children receive academic support every day. 85% of these students are performing at grade level or better of the 600 at-risk students graduating from the Student Success Academy remain on track toward high school graduation United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org

  14. School Success 209 800 children ages 6-18 read every day of the summer for 30 minutes at-risk middle school students received support to build positive academic and life skills to stay in school United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org

  15. School Success 127 600 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders not reading at grade level received tutoring to improve reading skills and were promoted to the next grade. at-risk girls ages 8-15 built courage, confidence and character United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org

That’s why we work to create successful workforce development programs with a strong network of community partners.   20. Workforce Development 100% 79% of the learners participating in Literacy Volunteers are moving closer to achieving their long term job goals of learners participating in STRIVE become employed within 2 years United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org

  21. Workforce Development 275 NC community to be awarded the Certified Work Ready Community status which attracts and retains industry and strengthens the regional economy high school students earned the national Career Readiness Certificate 2nd United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org

  23. Basic Needs 450 59,800 meals provided to homebound senior citizens fire victims received assistance from the American Red Cross United Way of Pitt County | www.uwpcnc.org
