Using ‘Go ON’ The Go ON badge unifies UK wide digital skills activity and can be used to communicate the benefits of getting connected via communications or initiatives specifically aimed at inspiring or supporting people, businesses or charities without Basic Online Skills, or helpers and supporters (otherwise known as digital champions), passing their digital skills on. This is the Go ON badge: In the spirit in which it's intended: Go ON isn't an endorsement or accreditation mark – it's there to highlight the benefits of getting connected. Programmes/ projects are encouraged to use targeted benefits messages that work for their audiences. Therefore, while they are free to adopt the Go ON badge, it is not necessary to do so in order to run North East Pathfinder activity. See ‘Go ON North East badge’ for more information about co-badging with Go ON for your local initiative. Please use the Magenta version, or create one in your own brand's colours. Go ON shouldn't be used on products such as computer hardware, or registered as part of a domain name, e.g. go-on.com or go-on.org. For more about using ‘Go ON’, please refer to the ‘Go ON’ guidelines.

  3. ‘Go ON North East’ badge ‘Go ON North East’ is the overarching badge used by the North East Pathfinder. Programmes/ projects are encouraged to use targeted benefits messages that work for their audiences. Therefore, while they are free to adopt the ‘Go ON North East’ badge, it is not necessary to do so in order to run Pathfinder activity. Projects/ programmes may choose to co-badge with ‘Go ON’ for their local initiative. See Go ON it’s Liverpool badge below and the ‘Using Go ON’ slide for more about using ‘Go ON’. Other projects, such as Go ON Boro, have taken ‘Go ON’ messaging, but chosen not to adopt the ‘Go ON’ badge: Partners may also choose to continue using their own brand alongside ‘Go ON North East’, to identify/ align digital skills activity with the Pathfinder. iNorthumberland for example, has chosen this option.

  4. ‘Go ON’ straplines Programmes/ projects are encouraged to use targeted benefits messages that work for their audiences. The Go ON strapline with a statement promoting the benefits of getting connected can be used when targeting people, SMEs or charities with low or no digital skills. You may choose to use a pre-existing strapline targeting people, SMEs or charities or create your own using the appropriate benefit for your audiences.   5. Go ON characters The Go ON characters are formed out of the ‘ON’ letter forms of the ‘Go ON’ badge. They can be used to help you communicate different ways of getting more out of life by being online. To make your communication more specific, you can personalise the basic Go ON character by adding gender, age and expression attributes as shown here. You may choose to use pre-existing characters, or develop your own if more appropriate for your target audiences. Please refer to the ‘Go ON’ guidelines for more info about creating ‘Go ON’ characters. When encouraging colleagues, customers or people in your community to share their digital skills with others i.e. to become ‘digital champions’, the digital champion character may also be used:

Shared language ‘Get connected’ Go ON UK and its Founder Partners are keen to create a national movement to improve digital inclusion and digital skills that all partners can coalesce around and contribute to in their own way. The word ‘Connected’ has been identified as less off-putting than ‘Online’ or ‘Digital’ and ‘Get Connected’ language can be collectively used to reinforce positive portrayal of the benefits of being online. It’s flexible enough for diverse partners to use but something that will also give a sense of unity and coordination. We hope that other partners will join in using this common language and leveraging as much impact as possible from each partner delivering their own activities under the ‘Connected’ umbrella.

  7. Shared language (ctd) Digital champion The phrase ‘digital champion’ describes anyone who supports family, friends, colleagues, customers or people in their community to enjoy all the benefits that digital skills can bring. They can be found: • In big commercial corporations • Working for small local charities • Running businesses • Involved in their local community via their church, school, village hall or doctor’s surgery. They could be a mother, father, daughter, son or grandparent Is the term ‘digital champion’ right for your audiences? There’s already a network of more than 15,000 digital champions across the UK. However, you do not have to use the term ‘digital champion’ to describe yours it if it doesn’t work for your audiences. Examples of terms used by other organisations include ‘Digital friends’, ‘Internet champions’ and ‘Computer buddies’.

  8. Messaging Projects/ programmes are encouraged to identify key drivers for their audiences and develop targeted benefits messaging. For example, during the Go ON it’s Liverpool campaign, the police XXXX While this document includes a core set of campaign messages, its primary aim is to inspire thinking about how best to motivate and support your audiences, whether they are digital champions in your organisation or community, or people, organisations and charities without Basic Online Skills. Calls to action If most appropriate, each partner is encouraged to point digital champions, or individuals, SMEs or charities without Basic Online Skills to their own help channel. Alternatively, you may choose adopt one or more of the calls to action in the following sections.
