The school aspires to continue in its mission of providing quality management education. It is hailed by many as the Wharton of the East with its up-to-date curriculum, several publications, event and several other strengths. We at IBS Mumbai believe that management education is a partnership between the school & the industry. In pursuance of this belief, we have been offering our students as well as students from other schools a chance to interact with various pioneers of the different industry sectors through our series of seminars-Metamorphosis. The theme for discussion in Metamorphos this time is Indian Elephant: Dormant or Dancing. It is our pleasure to invite you to attend this seminar. A warm welcome awaits you at IBS-Mumbai. Y. K. Bhushan INDIAN ELEPHANT: DORMANT OR DANCING ? Despite slowing from highs of 8% to 9% growth, India’s economy, it is claimed, will grow close to 7% in 2009. Amid domestic and global liquidity crunch, large domestic savings and corporate retained earnings are financing investment. Sluggish labor market and wealth effects have hit urban consumption. But low export dependence, a large consumption base and the high share of employment (two-thirds) and income (one-half) coming from rural areas has helped sustain consumption. Among all these multi-dimensional factors affecting the Indian Economy, what do you think: Is the Indian Elephant really on a take-off stage or is it still dormant dreaming of matching the developed world?
