Clubs and extra-curricular activities….. • Get involved! • Beginning of school there will be advertisements and announcements for different clubs/organization sign ups! • Some you have to tryout or sign up for on schedule! • Soccer, Knitting, Crafts, STEM, Student Council, NJHS, Art, Spanish, and more!

  4. CRIME STOPPERS • Crime stoppers is a volunteer student organization representing the campus. The program promotes the reduction and prevention of crimes on school property. It offers anonymity and cash rewards to students who furnish information leading to an arrest or disciplinary action against offenders. Allowing the students to remain anonymous helps calm the fears of having to come forward with information. It doesn't hurt that they also get paid. The crime stoppers meet monthly. We encourage anyone who wants to help create a safe environment for their school to inquire about becoming part of the crime stopper team. Staff Sponsors: To Be Determined SRO Officer Marcus Davis

  5. What is a SRO? Officer Marcus Davis Student Resource Officer is a uniformed Mesquite Police Officer. They can issue tickets and make arrests in situations involving school safety. Constant misbehavior in class, fights, threats, vandalism, truancy could all be reasons for the SRO to get involved.

  6. Middle School Expectations • Learning is important-Must have at least a 70 or above in all classes. • NO PASS NO PLAY-will not participate in extra curricular or UIL events (athletics, band, orchestra, choir) • Attendance-Attendance clerk that keeps up with attendance. Attendance is taken in every class. Watch absences • 90% Attendance Law-If you are not in attendance for 90% of school year….class credit can be denied.

Standard dress FAQs • What happens to a student if he/she does not comply with standard dress code policy • Dress code violations will be considered a Class 1 disciplinary offenses and will result in loss of privileges, detentions, or an ISS assignment for 1 to 5 days. • Failure to comply with standard dress/dress code policy after being assigned to ISS could result in further disciplinary action of a more serious nature, including length of ISS placement or an off campus placement. • Students assigned to ISS for noncompliance with the dress code would lose their exemption from semester exams! • Is there a grace period for compliance? • Students are expected to be in compliance with standard dress code policy on the first day of school.

  9. STAAR Testing • Sixth Grade: Math and Reading • Seventh Grade: Math, Reading, and Writing • Eighth Grade: Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies • Eighth graders must pass Reading and Math STAAR tests in order to be promoted to ninth grade! Retesting opportunities will be available.

  10. Social Media Logout of accounts on shared devices. Don’t share your passwords with anyone.

  11. No Lockers, Except Gym • Gym lockers will be provided for work out attire! • Do not share lockers with others.   12. Showers No showers may be taken after athletics, or P.E. You are encouraged to keep your hair, body, clothing, and teeth clean everyday. You are also encouraged to start using deodorant each day! Bring it to school along with body spray to use after workout.

  13. Self-Confidence/Peer Pressure There are several different schools that feed into Frasier. You may be in classes/on teams with students you know, a few you know, or none at all. It is important not to be the class clown!! Have the knowledge for how to correctly handle peer pressure. There are more freedoms that come with going to middle school!! BE READY!!

  14. Don’t hold stuff. • Don’t hold stuff for friends, no matter what it is. • Don’t buy stuff from other kids, no matter what it is.

  15. Bell Schedule • School day is from 8:25-3:35. • Doors open at 7:30, students wait in cafeteria

  16. Absences • Attendance is taken at the beginning of each class! • Attendance Clerk handles all absences….if you are absent or skip a class your parents will get a call or email alerting them! • Students having excused absences may make up class work within a reasonable length of time…..Two days absence=Two days to make up work • After a 3 day absence parents can request homework assignments to be left in office for pick up. • Bring Doctor’s or Dentist notes upon return!

  17. If I am LATE, what happens? First thing in morning you must go directly to office and sign in with an adult. If you are late between classes you must first answer to that teacher!

Disciplinary consequences • May include but are not limited to… • Student conference • Behavior contract • Time-out • Suspension (in-school or home) • Verbal correction • Loss of privileges • Challenge Program • Special duties • After or before school detention • JJAEP • Mesquite Intervention Center (like CAPE)

  19. How Much Is Food • $1.70 Student Breakfast • $2.70 Middle Lunch • Students on Free/Reduced Lunch must go in the hot lunch line • Snack Food “al la carte” line only accepts cash/check…Free/Reduced prices not available in those lines!

  20. MISC….. • Medication is kept in clinic • NO gum or candy may be eaten in classroom/hallway….vending machines cut off during the day. • If you get lost between classes there will be teachers and students in the hallway to direct you the first few days of school. • Backpacks are allowed! Binders are okay, too. • No headphones/cellphone/ipods allowed. Rules for phones follow district policy. $15.00 fine the first two times you are caught with one and the third time it is kept until the end of year. • No schedule changes • Middle School Instructional Teams- Students divided into teams or small groups. Each team of students share the same core teachers. Team classes are located close together. Team Teachers have common planning periods/conferences.

  21. School Supplies…... • 3 inch binder • Glue sticks • Pencil Pouch • Lined paper • Pens • Dividers • Pencils • Highlighters

  22. Tour the school w/schedule • The week of August 13th, you can bring a parent or guardian along with your school schedule to walk around the building and find your classrooms. They can’t print a schedule on that night. If you didn’t receive yours in the mail, you will need to provide proof of residence on the first day of school in order to get your schedule and go to classes. Be sure your address is correct in the system before school is out this school year so that you will receive your schedule in the mail!!

  23. VERY IMPORTANT • Be sure you are able to login to Skyward. Confirm that the email address in Skyward is a current email address and phone numbers are correct. Beginning July 25th all returning students will need to register in Skyward. This process must be completed before a student can receive/view their schedule.
