  1. Corticosteroid Injections for Hair Fall Treatment Introduction Corticosteroid injections, also known as cortisone injections, are in fact anti-inflammatory medications which help reduce inflammation. Cortisone injections are an important part of hair fall treatment today. What Is In The Corticosteroid Injection? Corticosteroid or cortisone is actuallya steroid hormone, and one of the main hormones released by the adrenal gland in response to stress naturally. But it is synthesized in artificial form as triamcinolone acetonide and used for medical purposes such as hair loss treatment. Some physicians may use some other form of medications to inject, although rarely. The concentration of medication may vary as well but generally ranges from 2-10 mg per ml.

  2. What Conditions Is Cortisone Injection Used To Treat and What Conditions It Isn’t Used To Treat? Cortisone injections mainly reduce inflammation under the scalp and stop the immune system from destroying hair follicles (which grow hair). These are the conditions it can be used to treat: Alopecia Areata Lichen Planopilaris and Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia Central Centrifigal Cicatricial Alopecia Pseudopelade Folliculitis Decalvans Some types of traction alopecia However, there are certain conditions which cortisone injections can’t treat and are useless on, which include: Androgenetic alopecia (male and female genetic balding) Telogen effluvium (hair shedding problems) Tinea capitis (fungal infections) trichotillomania (hair pulling) Are There Any Side Effects Of Corticosteroid Injections? Cortisones can actually be administered in 3 ways. 1.As cortisone creams and lotions that are applied on the skin. 2.As Cortisone injections 3.As cortisone pills taken orally. Out of the three, cortisone pills taken orally have the most potential side effects. Side-effects of cortisone creams and cortisone injections can include scalp irritation that may lead to a rash, thinning skin on the scalp, and a red or puffy face (injections).
