  3. What is equality? Equality is ……………… ensuring individuals or groups of individuals are treated fairly and equally, specific to their needs. Equality is not …………. about simply treating people the same.

  5. What is diversity? Diversity aims to recognise, respect and value people’s differences.

  6. Why equality and diversity? • Under the Equality Act 2010 colleges and universities are required to give ‘due regard’ to the need to: • eliminate unlawful discrimination • advance equality of opportunity • promote good relations • for those who have a protected background

  7. What are protected backgrounds? • Age • Disability • Gender Reassignment • Marriage and civil partnership (in employment) • Pregnancy and Maternity • Race • Religion or Belief (including no belief) • Sex • Sexual Orientation

  8. What does equality and diversity mean for Perth College UHI? • As a college we want to ensure: • Fairness • Opportunities • Respect FOR everyone

  9. How will we do this? By ensuring that equality and diversity is at the heart of what we do.

Who are our college community? • Session 2014-2015 • 500+ staff • 7000+ students • age range from under 16 to over 70 • 3.98% of staff identify as having a disability • 449 student PLSPs in place • 21 different ethnic origins • 19 different religions/beliefs • By ensuring that equality and diversity is at the heart of what we do.
