  2. Direct Observation • Going out and counting each organism individually. • Examples: I went out on the Serengeti and counted each Zebra.

  3. IndirectObservation • You can count how many are in [one lake] and times that by how many [lakes] there are. • Example: Count how many hippos are in the bay and times it by all the other bays. (the total amount.)

  4. Sampling • Making an estimate on how many you guess there are. • Example: I think there are 203 giraffes in the savannah.

  5. Mark-and-Recapture • Herd a bunch of animals, mark them, let them go, herd another group in 2 weeks, look at the ones that are marked, and mark the ones that have not yet been marked. • Example: Herd a bunch of lions, mark them, and follow rest as above.
