  2. How Did Puffins Get Their Name? • Their name originally meant “fatling.” • The name was used to describe the chubby cheeks. Chandler

Where Are Puffins Found? • Atlantic Puffins are found exclusively in the North Atlantic Ocean in North America. • They are found from Labrador to the Northeastern U.S. • In Europe, they nest south to the Brittany Coast of France. • They also nest northwards to Iceland, Greenland, and Northern Russia. • It is in Iceland where 60% of the population breeds.   15. How Many Eggs Do Puffins Lay at Once? • Puffins lay 1 egg per year. • They usually keep the same mate every season, live in the same burrows each year, and they take turns caring for the baby puffling. Briana

  16. How Deep Are Puffins Borrows? • Puffins borrows can be anywhere from 2-3 feet deep. • They dig their borrow with their bills and feet. Parker

  17. What Enemies Do Puffins Have? • Their main enemy is the great black backed gull. • This bird is very big and deadly. • The reason the great black backed gull hunts the puffin is because the puffin is really the only animal that’s on the sea most of the time. Tia

  22. How is Maine Helping to Bring Puffins Back? Puffins were disappearing in Maine. Stephan brought puffins from Canada and put them in Maine. He also painted decoys. The plan was for the puffins to think it was there homeland. The plan worked. Now there are lots of puffins in Maine. Yay! Reagan And since there are puffins we are happy!

  23. !How is Global Warming Effecting Puffins?! • Global warming will cause ice to melt. • If it happens puffins will die out. • Global warming will also cause water/air to heat up. • When puffins go into water they will heat up. • Puffins have a lot of fat on them. • So when the puffins go in warm water the fat on there body heats up • water heats as well, and they will get warmer every minute • Puffins then will sadly, slowly begin to die because they are so hot.   24. Are Puffins Endangered? Puffins are not endangered, but they are threatened by human activities. They are rare in areas where there once were a lot. As a result we need to help puffins to breed and feed in their habitat. Shaun
