  1. Be a Pilot : Fly Jets(Learn to Fly : Be a Pilot) Ed Triest, CFII Challenger Learning Center of Richland County School District 1 Columbia, South Carolina

  2. Aviation at your CLC • Using flight simulators to add an aviation component to your Challenger Center.

  3. Why add an aviation component to your Challenger Learning Center ? • Adds additional activity to your CLC • Could dovetail nicely with Missions • Aviation is full of science topics • Requires only a computer, joystick, and flight simulator software • Aviation is far more accessible for people to explore after being inspired at a CLC • Flying flight simulators is FUN!

  4. Flight SimulatorsCome in all kinds of …. • sizes, • setups, • capabilities, • variety of aircraft, • with or w/o lessons and missions, • and price tags! • some are FAA approved for pilot training. • others are not FAA approved but are just as valuable for training (sometimes better, and usually more fun!)

  5. USAF UAV Pilot Wings

  6. To get an aviation component started at your CLC you will need… Flight Simulator Program Fighter Pilot ? Student Pilot ? Which aircraft to use ? How to accomplish a preflight briefing ? What’s the overall learning objectives ? 1)must look inviting, fun, exciting! 2) Computer with large monitor 3) Good sound system 4) Joystick, but probably no foot pedals 5) At least one simulator * Microsoft flight simulator or X-Plane software

  7. CLC Columbia, South CarolinaAEL – Aerospace Education Lab

  8. A basic computer and joystick will do the job! Desktop Computer Laptop Computer
