Translations - one of the means to support the industry • A lot of translations from 2007 onwards - 6500 pages published in 22 EU languages • ECHA translates leaflets, technical guidance, web content, IT manuals, administrative documents and the news • Challenge – complex and highly technical terminology

  5. ECHA-term - Why? • Improve the quality of translations • Improved supply chaincommunication

ECHA-term • Launch to the public 2011 April, at http://echa.cdt.europa.eu Managed for ECHA by the Translations Centre in Luxembourg (CdT) • Projectdevelopment Phase I 2009Phase II 2010 Generation of core terminology Building the platform Definition of requirements Extending the database Proof-of-concept User group involvement

  7. ECHA-term content • 900 CLP and REACH terms, phrases and definitions in 22 EU languages • 9 multilingual pictograms with images • 53 substances of very high concern with EC and CAS numbers Soon: - 100-150 new terms are added annually http://echa.europa.eu

ECHA-term also offers Multilingual user interface Supporting material in 22 EU languages Advanced functions (history, audit, entry and user management) for administrators / validators Advanced alphabetical browsing Possibility to download the terminology in one, two or more languages (Excel or TBX) http://echa.europa.eu

  9. ECHA-term statistics (by 18/11) • Over 15 000 unique users since April 2011 / almost 35 000 visits in total • More than 600 registered users • About 350 enquiries / day • Top visiting countries: • Germany (4,172 visits) • Italy (2,454 visits) • France (2,407 visits) • Luxembourg (2,315)

Promotion is important 5 Oct 2011, ECHA e-News The names of SVHCs on the Candidate List are now available in 22 languages in the ECHA-term database. 12 Oct 2011, Chemical Watch ECHA publishes names of SVHCs in 22 languagesECHA has announced the names of SVHCs on the Candidate List are now available in 22 languages in the ECHA term database.
