  2. Natural events are not caused by humans. They include things like volcanoes, floods, storms, etc. • Natural events can have a range of impact on ecosystems – from minor to huge.

  3. Recovery can be immediate, or take decades or centuries (full cycle of secondary succession)

  4. Natural phenomena can have positive AND negative effects on ecosystems • Weather-related phenomena = when a change in the climate causes a change in the species that survive (warmer winters, hotter summers, etc); or when extreme weather events have major impacts on ecosystems. • SEE TABLE 1 P.109 (and understand it!)

  5. Natural phenomena can have positive AND negative effects on ecosystems • Geological-related phenomena = when geological activity in Earth’s crust impacts ecosystems (e.g. volcanoes, earthquake, etc.) • SEE TABLE 2 P.111 (understand it!)
