  6. National Minimum Wage Workshop • Held in September 2010 • Part of Knowledge Transfer Portfolio • Purpose: To review NMW regulations re HE student residential roles and "accommodation offset" calculation • Worked with other universities, BUFDG and UHR

  7. National Minimum Wage Workshop • Issues • Legislation intended to protect vulnerable, low paid workers, whose employer may charge excessive rent to avoid NMW • resident student workers employed on annual basis targeted • Legislation never intended to cover HE

  8. National Minimum Wage Workshop • Workshop Feedback = legislation was confusing • ASRA also became involved • Brought on to the national agenda • BIS undertook review and recently recommended the law be amended
