  2. The Lady With The Lamp • On Wednesday morning Florence Nightingale came into our caravan! • She was carrying a lamp.

  3. The Bags • She told us lots of things about her life. • We found interesting objects in the bags.

  4. Doll • We found a doll in the bag. The doll represented Florence when she was a baby.

  5. Bonnet This bonnet is like the one that Florence wore when she was young.

  6. Maths When she was little she loved learning maths. First she had a governess, but Florence was very stubborn, so then her Father taught her.

  7. The Bible • When Florence was seventeen she believed that God spoke to her. He told her to work as a nurse.

  8. Saving a Life Florence saved the life of a dog called Cap when she was twelve. She bandaged its leg because it was bleeding.

  9. Nurses Florence took 38 nurses to the Crimea in Russia. She made them wear uniforms, aprons and bonnets.

  10. Nuns • Florence also took Nuns to help in the hospital.

  11. Wounded soldiers Lots of the soldiers were injured. The hospital didn’t have clean bandages.

  12. Rats and Eye balls • The battlefields were muddy and covered in bodyparts. The hospitals were dirty and disgusting and had rats running around. The food was dreadful.

  13. Doctors After a terrible battle the Doctors agreed to let Florence and her nurses help the soldiers.

  14. Chef • Florence brought a chef to make healthy food for the soldiers.

  15. Cleaning Florence and her nurses cleaned the dirty beds and scrubbed the floors.

  16. Caring for the Soldiers Florence and her nurses got clean bandages and clean bedding for the soldiers.

  17. Being Kind The nurses and Florence wrote letters for the soldiers, read to them and sent their wages to their families in England.

  18. Jimmy the Tortoise The nurses kept a pet tortoise called Jimmy to entertain the soldiers.

  19. Heroine When Florence returned to England she was a heroine. She was awarded an Order of Merit medal and also The Red Cross.

  20. Queen Victoria Queen Victoria gave Florence enough money to start a training school for nurses in England.

  21. Old Florence As Florence got older, she became blind. She spent most of her time in bed with her favourite cat, Mr Bismark.

  22. Remembering Florence Florence wrote lots of books about nursing. There is a statue of Florence in London. Her face has been on coins, notes and stamps.

  23. We enjoyed lots of different activities with Florence.

  24. We looked at lots of artefacts.

  25. We dressed up as soldiers...

  26. ...and nurses.

  27. We played games.

  28. We listened so carefully. • We found out lots of amazing facts, and had lots of fun too. • Florence even gave us special history merit stickers.
