  2. Traditional Acknowledgement We would like to begin by recognizing and acknowledging that the Langley School District, and D.W. Poppy Secondary School, resides on the traditional unceded territories of the Kwantlen, Katzie, Matsqui and Semiahmoo First Nations.

A few words of wisdom... • How to have a successful Grade 12 year: • Get involved in school activities – this is your last chance!  • Stay organized with your school-work and your other commitments  • Use Flex block effectively • Keep up to date with homework  • Attend class regularly and arrive on time  • Be an example for the younger students

  12. Grad Photos • $45.00 Sitting Fee payable at time of sitting. Includes: • 16 previews, 11x14 diploma folder and mini-composite • Commencement photo • Previews available approximately 2 weeks after photo date. • Online sign-up – link will be sent out near the end of October for students to choose appointment    • Sign up for one appointment and one appointment only • Brochure available in the office end of October

Yearbook • Email soft copy of baby photos to dwpyearbook@gmail.com • Or give hard copy with student name on the back of photo to Mr. Sandquist before Christmas break. • Grad Write ups will be done in English class. • Write ups for commencement to be submitted online – more information to follow in the spring

  14. Grad Wear • Available online at: https://teamwear.lionheartsports.com/dw-poppy • Crew neck sweaters, hoodies and jogger pants • Store will be open until midnight on Sunday September 29th  • Orders can be picked up in approx. 6 weeks  • See Mr. Crowley for questions and to try on samples

Grad Capstone • Requirement for graduation • Completed as a part of the Career Life Connections Course  • Culminating project, presentation, or performance  • Allows students the opportunity to consolidate and showcase the learning from their school and life experience into a meaningful and relevant product. 

  16. Grad Capstone • Important Dates:  • Students in Career Life Connections in Semester 1 will present on January 20th • Students with CLC in Semester 2 will present on June 15th

REQUIRED COURSES GRADE 10 CLE Math 10 or Workplace Math 10 English 10 Science 10 Social Studies 10 PE 10 GRADE 11 English 11 A Science 11 course Pre-Calculus Math 11, Foundations of Math 11 or Workplace Math 11 CLC + Capstone GRADE 12 Social Studies 12 English 12 2 other Grade 12 Courses PLUS • 6 Additional Grade 10, 11 or 12 electives  • Literacy Assessment  • Numeracy Assessment  TOTAL: 80 CREDITS

  22. TVR’s  (Transcript Verification Report) • Will go out in November.  • Students will check that their transcripts are correct and accurate.  • We will be doing this during class time.

  23. All students applying to post-secondary will be required to submit interim and final transcripts as part of the application process. Most programs will require an electronic transcript. These are available through the Ministry of Education, however you must give them permission to send them on your behalf.   34. Youth Train in Trades Students can earn post-secondary/technical trades training while earning high school credit in Langley high schools. Trades include: • Carpentry  • Electrical • Automotive • Piping/Plumbing • Professional Cook • Horticulture • Hair Stylist

  35. Work in Trades Get a head start on the work-based training for an apprenticeship program while you’re still in high school. “Earn while you learn” and graduate from the Youth Work in Trades program with 16 high-school credits and 480 work-based training hours that count towards your trade credential. If you’re working (or worked) in an apprenticeable trade, see Ms. Czuprynski today!

  38. Work in Trades SCHOLARSHIP Students are eligible for a Youth Work in Trades Scholarship if they: Are registered with ITA as a youth apprentice. Have a Grade 12 Dogwood Diploma or Adult Dogwood Diploma. Have successfully completed MWRK1A, 1B, 2A and 2B. Maintained a C+ average or better in your Grade 12 courses. Reported 900+ hours to ITA by Dec 31 of the school year in which you turn 19.

  45. Ministry of Education Scholarships BC Achievement Scholarship - $1250 • Awarded to top 8000 graduates in BC based on Gr.10,11,12 courses. Students  don’t need to apply for this scholarship. BC Excellence Scholarships - $5000 • One student is nominated per school. Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship- $5000 • Awarded to 20 BC students who plan to become a teacher.
