  1. Forest and wildlife resources

  2. A forest is best defined as an ecosystem  or assemblage of ecosystems dominated by trees and other woody vegetation.

  3. This entire habitat that we live in has immense biodiversity

  4. Biodiversity or biological diversity The variability among living organisms on the earth, including the variability within and between species and ecosystems

  5. Forest facts

  6. Tropical rainforests  Some rainforest monkeys are omnivores, eating both animals and plants 80% of the flowers in the Australian rainforests are not found anywhere else in the world

  7. Sub-tropical forests  Bats are essential for the pollination of many tropical foodstuffs such as bananas and mangoes

  8. Plantation forests As the climate change issue reaches fever pitch, interest in the use of forests as a means of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere has accelerated Forest establishment can also contribute to other social and environmental outcomes.

  9. Montane forests The elevation of the montane forests life zone is from about 8,000 to 10,000 ft above sea level.    You can tell that you are getting higher in the mountains by the cooler temperatures, the dense mountain forests, and by the increased precipitation throughout the year.

  10. Temperate forests -Animals that live in the temperate deciduous forest must be able to adapt to the changing seasons. -Lichen, moss, ferns, wildflowers and other small plants can be found on the forest floor

  11. Mediterranean forests  Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub , defined by the World Wildlife Fund, characterized by dry summers and rainy winters.

  13. Flora And Fauna

  14. The plants of a particular region, habitat, or geological period is called flora.

  15. The animals of a particular region, habitat, or geological period is called fauna.

  16. DID YOU KNOW? Over 81,000 species of fauna and 47,000 species of flora are found in this country. 15,000 flowering species are endemic (indigenous) to India!!

  17. ‘Threatened’ and then ‘Critical’ 10% of India’s recorded wild flora and 20% of its mammals are on the threatened list. Many of these are right now categorized as ‘critical’.

  18. The Lost Species! • Animals like….. • Cheethah • Pink-headed duck • Mountain quail • Forest spotted owlet • Plants like….. • Madhucainsignis • Hubbardia • Heptaneuron

  20. Species

  21. Normal Species

  22. Normal Species are species whose population levels are considered to be normal for their survival.

  23. Cattle :-

  24. Other Normal Species :- Rodent Pine

  26. Endangered Species • Species in danger of extinction. The survival of such species is difficult if the negative factors which have lead to the decline in their population continue to operate. • Indian Rhino • Indian Wild Ass • Crocodile • Black Buck

  28. Extinct Species • Species which are not found after searches of known or likely areas where they may occur. A species may be extinct from a local area, region, country , continent or entire earth. • Asiatic Cheetah • Pink Head Duck • Dinosaurs

  30. Vulnerable Species • Species in whose population has declined to levels from where it is likely move into the endangered category in near future if the negative factors continue. • Blue Sheep • Asiatic Elephant • Gangetic Dolphin

  32. Endemic Species • Species which are found in a particular regions usually isolated by natural or geographical barriers. • Andaman Teal • Nicobar Pigeon • Andaman Wild Pig

  33. Done by Farasha

  34. Rare Species • Species with small population may move into the endangered or vulnerable category in near future if the negative factors continue. • Himalayan Brown Bear • Wild Asiatic Buffalo • Desert Fox

  36. VANISHING FORESTS The dimensions of deforestation in India are staggering. The forest cover in the country is estimated to be 637,293 sq km, which is 19.39 % of the total area .According to the State of Forest Report , the dense forest cover has increased due to plantation by different agencies. The State of Forest Report does not differentiate between natural forest and plantation. These report also fail to giver accurate information about vanishing forests.
