  1. Tweak Your Tone For Every Company • Don't send generic cover letters • Tone of your letter fits the type of firm you're applying to. • Research what the company is looking for and tailor your letter accordingly

  2. Make a Case • Be sure that on your cover letter you make the case for “Why you are right for the job?” and “Why you want to work for the company?” • Sell yourself by also adding experience with job description. • List your skills and experiences that match the type of candidate they are looking to hire.

  3. Be Different • Don't repeat everything on your résumé in your cover letter. • Cover Letter should show your personality. • Repeating things on cover letter which is already there on resume just takes up valuable space of cover letter.

  4. Focus on the company, not yourself • Try to avoid using too much “I” • Instead show how you can be a helpful addition to the company, not in general.

  5. Stick to the Right Length. • Limit yourself to a page, and try to stick to four paragraphs. • First should comprise an introduction which includes position you are applying for and why you are perfect for it. • Second should contain your skills and specific achievements. • Third paragraph should mention in detail about your suitability for the job. • Fourth paragraph should be to make a polite mention of letting them know how you'll be in touch.

  6. Keep it clean • Be sure to repeatedly edit your cover letter, and always have at least one other pair of eyes look it over. • Check for grammar mistakes, run-on sentences, and spelling errors. • Make sure everything is consistent. If you say "I am" in the first sentence, then don't suddenly switch to "I'm" in the next.
