Audacity basics: Draw tool: for making small changes when zoomed in play Rewind/start Envelope tool: trim a wave down to make it quieter record pause stop Select tool Fast forward/end Magnify tool ‘Wave form’ of the sound you have imported or recorded Time shift tool: move a clip forwards or backwards Multi-tool: use a number of the other tools at once

  4. Audacity basics: If you make a copy of the audio file before editing, it will copy the whole file into your project. If you read directly from the original file, it will draw a ‘picture’ of it and play unchanged parts of the file straight from the original sound file. So if you lose it, your in trouble! Starting a new project: Open Audacity and save your project to a new folder in your area

  5. Audacity basics: Importing audio clips: 1. drag and drop the audio file in to the Audacity window OR 2. Select Import Audio ... in the Project menu Audacity can import WAV, AIFF, AU, IRCAM, MP3 and OGG files
