Building Capacity as a Presenter Presenter Skills November 27, 2012 This material was developed for use by participants in the Common Core Leadership in Mathematics (CCLM^2) project through the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Use by school district personnel to support learning of its teachers and staff is permitted provided appropriate acknowledgement of its source. Use by others is prohibited except by prior written permission.

  2. Debriefing Homework 1. Chapter 3, Maintaining Confidence, pages 35 - 42. 2. In your journal, reflect on the presentation of Case Study #4 from class on October 9th. Be sure to reflect and connect the three stages of presentations we discussed in class (Openings, Body, Closings) to the presentation of Case Study #4. Be prepared to share your thinking in small groups.

  3. Make Connections Presentation Stages Presentation Table Discussion: Review your homework, and make connections between the Presentation Stages and the Presentation. (Pgs. 26 – 34)

  5. Presentation Stage # 3 Throughout the Body Purpose: To help the participants stay clear about what they have learned, what they are learning, and what they will learn.

  6. Presentation Stage # 4During the Closing Purpose: To communicate a sense that something was accomplished, that what was accomplished was worthwhile, and that it is complete for now (Jensen 1988).

Course Objectives The aim of this course for the "Continuing Group of Leaders" is to build the capacity of teacher leaders to use coaching skills and effective facilitation strategies to support teachers, schools, and districts for implementation of the Wisconsin Common Core Standards in Mathematics. Specific course objectives include: • Develop leadership and coaching skills for supporting colleagues’ transition to the Common Core. • Acquire skills to plan and facilitate professional learning sessions on the Common Core. • Deepen mathematics content knowledge of the geometry standards and domain progressions of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
