These days, water electrolysis is also considered as a prominent process that is utilized for the production of high-purity hydrogen from renewable energy sources and water. These systems are readily available, durable and exhibit low capital cost because it avoids noble metals. But the efficiency of this technology is negatively affected because of its frequent start-ups and varying power input. PEMEC technology is less mature than AEC because it is based on solid polymer electrolyte (SPE). This is used in small-scale applications. The main advantages of PEMec technology generators are cell efficiency and high power density, and its supply of pure and highly compressed hydrogen. It has a shorter life than AEC at present. And SOEC technology is the least developed electrolysis technology till now. Though systems are developed to demonstrate this technology to companies it is not widely commercialized.
